It was like "oops, we had too many survivors with anti-Umbrella vendetta. Can't make a game with all of them, so let's kill Umbrella off-screen and pretend Barry/Carlos/etc doesn't exist outside just mini-games."
That is is the problem when you do not have a consistent director/scenarior writter dedicated to the main plot. RE used to be Kamiya's child through 1 and 2. But gets thrown around from 3 onwards when Capcom decides to milk the brand.

A good example on how a franchise should be would be Metal Gear with Kojima at helm. Maybe not every title is good but at least the main plot falls into place when it concluded in MGS4

And now they are rebooting Devil May Cry since there's no new input, so you may be correct about Capcom rebuilding RE from the grounds up here.
Well they probably hoped that Dead Rising and Lost Planet would be this gens version of that game... they also have Dragon's Dogma on the way... and this gen they revived their fighting games as well as having Monster Hunter become something on the level of Dragon's Quest and Pokemon in Japan.

Well, depends. Sherry was 12 during Raccoon, so she should be 22 if we suppose it's 2008. If we stretch the story out to 2013~2014, then 27~28.

If anyone was thinking that all those extra guys in the larger scale battle sequences were just going to get killed allowing Chris to one man army...think again.

Mind, this could be coop for some survival mode. But it seems to me that it's possible that at least certain parts of the campaign (the larger combat sequences with Chris rappelling in with allot of BSAA guys) might mean you could have half a dozen people in coop campaign online.

Holy shit!

I'm guessing it would actually go the way of RE5 with a full campaign co-op, what with every single scenario coming with a pair of characters. 8 players also just seem to spell some sort of Horde mode ontop of the usual Mercs mode too. Or some kind of versus mode similar to the one in RE5.

Which would make it kinda disappointing, I always felt that the co-op/partner aspect in RE5 was unnecessary and made the game far too action focused. Having a fully capable partner removed much of the tension that was present in RE4.

I just told my Nephew about this and he is seriously looking forward to the game now. 2 player offline was the thing he liked best about RE5 and to see a return to that it's pretty much a must buy for him.

Best thing here is that I'll no longer have to worry about getting the game myself.

I liked the offline co-op too. Not enough of those games these days.

prequel or sequel? This is said to be set in 2008 till we eventually end up in present day setting of RE6 2013.

Well as someone who finished RE4 recently. I can say her voice is definitely same as Ashley.

I'm sensing someone who doesn't have a REAL appreciation for just what a benign escort mission Ashley was

Ashleys AI was certainly better than the coop partner in RE5 who was ACTIVELY trying to help you by fighting.

Lets do a quick analysis.

Ashley: You try to aim at an enemy behind her, she ducks to give you a clear line of fire

RE5 coop AI: Looks at you stupidly, before moving behind you, ussually in time for an enemy to hit you

Another proof here that Capcom is losing it's touch by the brain drain of notable talents.

Actually 3 is the best out of all the RE games in PS1. The challenge of defeating Nemesis in the first confrontation (instead of just running into the police station) using nothing but the handgun is hell lot of fun.

Of course, there is the shelf bug INSIDE the station where you get to hack the poor boss to death with your knife.

Any RE game after Code Veronica is automatically garbage IMO. I missed the shoot and run mechanics of fighting bosses; apparently RE6 feels alot like Gears of War.
