I'm in the opposite. I'm glad that happened at the end since it was turning out into a dull episode where nothing bad was really happening.

Airi is proving to a source of interesting information.
Kaito snooping around.
No wonder he found something.
Subaru was pretty LOL pestering Furugoori.
That Kona is totally tsundere.
Kimijima Kou murder case has got me intrigued.
Subaru's dad is just.... unbelievable.

A backstory is a must. There has to be a reason why he wants his son to succeed him. Like what led them to make a promise like that in the very beginning. Even so, the dad still needs some serious anger management.

I am guessing he was once a part of the Robotics Club and knew the previous members. He was close to them for a time but Kirijima's death changed that. He maybe wants his son not to end up like him for his son's safety.

Just saw the first two episodes. I am impressed. Very simple style of story telling. By the half way point in episode 1, I bought into the main duo without even realizing. The laid back setting helps a lot too to get into this story. I'm sold with this show.

the world will be destroyed by the sun.... so much like the speculations running around of how OUR earth will be destroyed. I wonder what the ending of the story is about. Still, the story's main focus seems to be on achieving one's dream in desperate circumstances rather than on the apocalypse itself. I guess that's what Robotics Notes is essentially saying.

There's some kind of strange charm to this series. Maybe it's because the artistic direction gives a good contrast between serious and cute; the transitions between these scenes are quite smooth.

Looking forward to seeing what else they can surprise me with.

what is it with AnimeSuki's extreme fixation on subtlety

in real life screwed up people with anger issues are often unsubtle

I think his biggest problem is having terrible taste in hobbies, though. I mean, I could kinda sorta halfway imagine fishing maybe perhaps being fun in the 1830s or something when there wasn't much of anything else to do (no offense to fans of fishing, but I've always found it dreadfully dry and boring), but it's 2019, otou-san. Surely you can find a more fun hobby to pass the time.

Eh..? I think that Subaru's dad does fishing for a living, not as a hobby.

Agree. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet that the real meaning of Subaru's promise is that he will join the family business when he graduates from school. Probably after high school & not even after college, Dad just strikes me as the kind of guy who sees little value in advanced education.

My initial reaction to that scene was similar to yours.

On the other hand, I think that the plot was maybe progressing a bit too smoothly on the Robotics Club end of things (gaining two more members, getting their robot fighter primed and ready to go without much trouble, etc...) and we needed a new and unique "challenge" to keep things tense and interesting.

The ending, overall, was nicely intense, and did provide a good contrast between it and the more subtle and slow-moving aspects of this episode.

On the whole, Robotics;Notes now has one of the more interesting plots of this anime season for me. It has a few different facets to it, with several subplots running concurrently. It's not all about just one thing, and I kind of like that. There's also an impressive diversity to the five Robotics Club members.

Very good show. I'm looking forward to more.

The way Airi reacts whenever she is touched up... it's really adorable. Good job, Kugimiya-chan.

And whenever the OP starts I'm like:

Unless she's coming out of the shower with wet hair I prefer Akiho's the way it is. It's so interesting to look at, it's not just a simple ponytail. Kinda reminds me of a pom tree.

Welcome aboard the "5pb ;" train. Please enjoy the ride.

After it's done once, I knew they keep bringing that touch part up everytime because they know it's so cute.

Yep! The ending is lovely as well.

*Hasn't watched episode 7 yet but*

Subaru's father has to have a reason for that. Maybe because when Subaru first tried robotics it simply hurt him? Then having the promise he made with his father shattered with a reattempt to go back into robotics is like saying you love your father. Then say you hate his interest in fishing in secret.

What I don't understand is why did Subaru's father tell him about the tournament? Is he testing to see if Subaru is keeping to his word? After hearing that Subaru "has nothing to do with it anymore". Then finding him testing his robot is a big slap in the face. Maybe I'm just hoping for a "dang well good justification" for that ending then just "I hate your interests in robots and want you fishing with me".

Still, hitting your son like that isn't right at all..
