Gifū Dōdō!! Kanetsugu to Keiji
Original creator/Production supervisor: Tetsuo Hara Director: Bob Shirohata Series Composition: Yasuhiro Imagawa Character Designer: Masaaki Kanan Music: KAZSIN Animation Production: Studio Deen Plot summary: The manga follows the adventures of the real-life samurai Naoe Kanetsugu. Note: Tetsuo Hara first created the 1990-1993 manga Hana no Keiji -Kumo no Kanata ni- to adapt Keiichiro Ryu's novel about another samurai, Maeda Keiji. Hara and magazine editor Nobuhiko Horie then brought in manga artist Yūji Takemura to launch the spinoff Gifū Dōdō!! Naoe Kanetsugu -Maeda Keiji Tsuki-gatari- in Weekly Comic Bunch magazine in 2008. According to Hara, he felt he did not delve far enough into the life of Maeda's close friend Naoe in the earlier manga. However, Weekly Comic Bunch folded in 2010. As result, Horie launched a new magazine called Comic Zenon in 2010. The three creators started the ongoing series Gifū Dōdō!! Naoe Kanetsugu -Maeda Keiji Sake-gatari- in Comic Zenon's inaugural issue. Shinchosha published all nine volumes of Tsuki-gatari, while Tokuma Shoten published the sixth volume of the Sake-gatari followup in December.

Really waiting it. But DEEN involvement is frightens me. Also, I hoped that Akio Ohtsuka will voice Keiji (he voiced him in the "Keiji" audio book), but Takuya Sato seems an alright choice.
Still wonder why did they decide to animate spin-off before the actual manga. Maybe they want to check if it will be popular? |

This is going to be the manliest show this year.
I do wonder why Naoe Kanetsugu of all people, though. I mean, he wasn't really famous for being a total badass... By the way, Namikawa Daisuke is so ridiculously awesome. Seriously, only this season he's Kanetsugu here, Whatshisface in Kamisama no inai nichiyoubi, and that guy in Brothers Conflict... Last edited by kuromitsu; 2013-07-02 at 17:43. |

I picked this up at random from Crunchyroll and thought it was so ridiculously over-the-top that it might be worth watching for a while. I wish the women were more than male playthings, though. Maybe there will be some strong female characters, but the cast list looked pretty uniformly male.
You gotta love a guy who fights while smoking his pipe. Any speculation on what is in it, if anything at all? Maybe he just uses it to project a macho image like Macarthur?
