I mean I'll probably watch it because I really enjoyed the manga but I really hope they tone down the avantgarde directing. This isn't bakemonogatari, it didn't really need to be directed as such.
On the other hand the trailer looks really good and more Witch Maki is always a plus so...

Light hearted episode to start things of again. The first half was meant to introduce the characters and their abilities again, and the second half was pure comedy. I wouldn't be surprised if this was entirely anime original, but it was fun so who cares?
Why isn't there a nude calendar with the women? It's not fair...

Well props to the success of the Captain America shield throw there .
Will also agree that Maki should have given in and worn a dress. While she can get into quite a state in combat, no reason she can't go as girly as she wants off the job. The other two definitely made their casual outfits work though. Action has always been the biggest strength of this show and that continued to be the case in this first episode back.

Damn this is looking so much better than Season 1. Still has that vibrancy from the first season, still some great animation during the battle scenes and the director is not going all weird with the pacing and sound placement. Nice!
That was overall a really good first episode and those chapters work wonders to re-introduce the squad anyway. I guess having lowered expectations helps somewhat but still, good showing

I agree Maki could have totally pulled a dress off. I'm not sure where her complex originates from (were we told? I assume someone close to her did call her a gorilla cyclops once), she's not that muscular, just toned.

The results are surprisingly similar, if not for Fire Force the top 4 would have been the same. Of course, it stands to reason sequels would be the most anticipated series of the season, just surprised even the order is the same.

This episode had it all. Comedy, action and drama. Captain Hague is super creepy, having an old man be such a major M is just
Arthur's backstory seemed like it would be sad but heartwarming at first but then his parents just abandoned him. Poor kid. He loses himself in delusions to avoid facing the harsh reality. People with Adolla Bursts are called Pillars and Iris is the very first one apparently. Split personality? Quite devilish, in any case.

Overall that was a necessary transition episode but wasn't particularly interesting to me. To be fair I also had the same feeling during this bit in the manga. While the transition from the events in the previous arcs and the comedy break in the middle worked just as well on the original as it did in the first episode (which is seriously commendable, it's not every day that those transitions are as well handled as they were here) I just couldn't get that invested in Artur's backstory. Sure, it's sad, but there's no change to him being kind of a pain due to his unbelievable delusional state and that ends up being incredibly tiring to watch/read.
Anyway onwards to the next episode. I see that the new "best" girl is about to make her entrance, can't wait to see the reactions.
