The cast :
The translation probably like this : "That day, the first time I don't feel bored ──" One day, a serial murder of teachers occurred at a certain junior high school. That was the first encounter of Kobayashi, a boy who attended that school, with Akechi, a genius detective who investigating the incident. Kobayashi dragged his friend, Hashiba (despite his concern) to give their assistance to Akechi, who always interested in abnormal crime. From that day on, Kobayashi threw away his boring life, and find himself in bizarre incidents that happened one after another. ==== I'm not quite sure if Kobayashi dragged Hashiba or not, but the general idea is the two of them joined with Akechi and start investigating the crime. |

Episode 1:
Anyone else find it interesting that they are using shadows for the background and supporting characters? I think the show is really trying to use identity is a gimmick. Good start so far. I don't like the main guy yet but I do find his personality to be kinda interesting. The first episode also sets up a gruesome murder as the the culprit set it up to look like a piece of art in a way. (with very bizarre positioning of the body). Curious to see what else they will go with this. Liked the ED theme song.

The shadow characters only filled in once Kobayashi paid attention to them. Nice one. On the whole, a strong first episode. I really enjoyed that and I'm waiting to see how Kobayashi gets out of this. |

Ep 01
Well, the first ep did not make a big impression on me - in fact it struck me as kind of artistically pretentious at times (especially the OP - ugh), and periodically I was yanked out of the narrative by elements I felt to be "unbelievable" (yes, highly subjective there), but on the whole it was not uninteresting or boring. I will give the next ep a try.

1st off.
THAT'S A GUY?! Damn, I was all like "this girl is cute" Then it destroyed my identity. Character designs and certain angles seems like its trying to imitate kyoani and SHAFT. Been a while since I watched a tensei detective series, so going to give this a go. Quote:

nice to see lerche taking the mystery approach for Ranpo Kitan to the next lvl. not revealing any characters face till the right moment surely builds some sort of suspense. lets see how well they can utilize this in later episodes. the animation isn't anything stellar but they seem to give me some assclass vibes. looks like this studio is starting to give itself an identity. this whole crime detective thing is surely interesting. seeing a couple of them as made me appreciate it more. the source seems to be some great work so I'm guessing that is whats really going to determine how well this anime is. lerche is doing fine with the direction part, as i stated the reveal of characters. there are some creepy ppl in here and the mc seems too calm i guess this will really be a fun ride.

I always knew I liked pretentious. Loved this first ep. I didn't used to be a fan of Kishi Seiji (director) and Uezu Makoto (writer), but they nailed it for me here. The tone and pace were entrancing. The show was over before I realized it.
Of course Sakurai Takahito was great (Akechi), but the fresh voice of Murakawa Rie (a girl) playing the boy (!?) was extremely effective, for me. Fit the face and the script perfectly. Takahashi-san played about six minor roles in Shirobako, and will be one of the stars of two other shows this season: Sore ga Seiyuu and Gakkou Gurashi. Looks as if the 81Produce agency has an up-and-comer. Not the greatest drawing/animation, I guess, but as with Shinbou, I loved the artifices they used to squeeze effectiveness out of less animator time. And about halfway through, when we saw Kobayashi walking down the street, I have never seen such a light (and, dare I say it, feminine) walk, maybe created by the way the arms swung slightly. After many seasons, I do realize that I am too easily impressed by first episodes, but I really did enjoy this one (as well as a couple of others, lol). For me, the OP and ED were both enjoyable: in the OP the song was good and the animation outstanding; in the ED the song was excellent, and the animation okay.

I didn't really care for this first episode much. The main character kept taking me out of it and annoying me to no end. I have no idea what they just didn't make the guy a girl. I thought he WAS a girl until they said it in the beginning, and even then it took me a bit to believe it wasn't just a subtitle mistake.
I do like the main detective guy, he's fascinating to a point. I would have much rather just have him as the main, main character, rather than having to go through the irritating one we've got. The idea of the pretentiousness is also there, and it's quite overbearing. I've also seen better mysteries on Psycho-Pass. I'll keep going for two more episodes, but this definitely didn't give a good first impression.

I love this first episode.
I love mcs that are abnormal and him showing his calmness was fantastic. Of course, it was even better when he said that he just wanted to play a fun game. Reminds me of Saki and all the TANOSHIIs. The government guy is pretty interesting as well. And the mystery introduced sounds like it could be a lot of fun so definitely continuing. The blurring out people was also a nice touch and it seems to be done on purpose. Seiji Kishi and Makoto Uezu did well with YuYuYu so I hope they can bring some of that magic from there to here as well. Though i don't know why everyone thought he was a girl? I looked at him once and knew it was a boy before he even said a word. And no, i didn't read the synopsis or any written comment before viewing it. I don't really see how this is pretentious but meh. The op song was pretty meh to me but i have a whole collection of J-indie songs so this is nothing really standout-ish to me. |
