IMO the feelings Nana and Nobu felt for each never went away it is still there. The problem is lost oppertunties and things left unsaid. Hachi chose the best decision for her child. She never stop loving Nobu she does love Takumi but there is a different kind of love that nobu and her shared that will always be there. Two scenes in the manga point out these facts very strongly about how they feel about one another as all you have to do is read between the line of the dialog and also watch facial expressions.

I saw this a while back, around two years ago but I stopped at episode 40. Now after watching the last 7 episodes, it was disappointing that I didn't get any closure whatsoever. This is why I hate anime that uses the manga for their source material. Can't get a decent ending with closure. It seems there will be NANA2 however from the looks of the future, Nobu and Hachi's relationship didn't really get better or get any development whatsoever. It looks like maybe Hachi worked for Nobu's parents as a maid or something along those lines since she calls him young master, I think, I forgot already. So I may not really watch it.

It's hard to say who should be with who, there are so many relationships, and they all seem so right to for each other. But I do believe we will get some kind of closure eventually, and probably in the Nana/Nana department. My only disappointment is how since Hachiko's marriage she had her personality subsumed into the role of the 'missus', and entirely lost her independent action. She became a much less interesting character as a whole. But maybe that's just a realistic protrait of women and marriage in Japan. |

Well, my first post here.
As a manga reader, I'm impressed that the anime did a pretty good job of adaptating the front portion of the series. The voice cast was impressive, to say the least. In all, an enjoyable watch. As for a second anime series, we can only wait, and hope.

A big point is how demanding of others she is, especially Shouji...she'd whine about him not spending enough time with her, but then she'd blow off dates to fangirl Nana. Hachi kept forgetting that this is a guy who REALLY had to work his way though school and wasn't just in Tokyo with time to spare. She really expected people to take care of her and give things to her without doing much of anything to earn that. That was in large part why I think she "dumped" Takumi for Nobu...Nobu was the one who she thought could give her the fairy tale she wanted, and she was just as quick to leave him when Takumi came to her rescue when she learned she was pregnant. Overall, I think the last few chapters since her pregnancy have made Hachi a far more likeable character to me. Not that I didn't love her in the early days, but in spite of Takumi's...um, questionable treatment at times, the relationship she has with him is one where she's really gotta pull and realize that it won't be all about her. |

My post is a spoiler
Hi everyone! This is my first post here. Although I've looked through this forum a couple of times, I waited until I caught up to the most recent chapter of Nana (78.2) before I came to share my comments. I wanna warn you though, everything I discuss will somehow contain SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! (otherwise where's the fun in discussion). I'll make a warning at the beginning all the time. Just skip my post if you're not caught up. Regarding Hachi & Nobu --- I was all for them. Honestly, when Nobu's feelings for Hachi were revealed early on ~chapter 22, I didn't see them coming, nor did I realize how perfect he & Hachi were. He's super caring & attentive to her, he's pure hearted, fun, and he and Hachi act very much alike. (even if recent chapters, and by Nana O, Nobu is sometimes depicted as a dog). One point to their downfall was that Nobu was too slow to reveal his feelings for her. Now I'm not quite sure exactly when Nobu fell for Hachi, but after her breakup and all, Hachi was vulnerable and got into that tainted relationship with Takumi. Maybe if Nobu had been there earlier to support her, this wouldn't have happened (then again, there'd be no story, so thank goodness XD). Secondly, Nobu & Hachi's breakup was just unfortunate and a result of Hachi getting into that affair with Takumi. I mean, there were so many pressure points on Nobu all of the sudden. He was definitely not ready to become a father, mentally & financially. His passion for music surpassed that for his relationships (ie: Chiho from chapter 61), and I think a big deal about Hachi is that she respects his (and the rest of Blasts) dedication to their music & fully supports them. Most importantly, all realistic probabilities pointed to the child being Takumi's. It was wrong of Nobu to doubt Hachi. It is reasonable for Nobu to wonder why Takumi was at Hachi's house, calling from her phone. In my opinion, Nobu was too insecure with himself and his ability to compete with Takumi (we've seen these in earlier chapters), so he probably thought that Hachi may still wander. Furthermore, not only is Nobu in no way ready to accept the responsibility of a child, by a girl he dated for ~ 1 week, that was most likely to be the child of a man he absolutely loathed no less. In addition to Hachi who was too overwhelmed by the situation to explain, talk or even stop Nobu from leaving, while all the while uttering "I'm sorry.." I'm not sure what Nobu was supposed to think. It was definitely just too much of an explosion in both their faces, and only Takumi has the maturity and cold-calculativeness to step back, evaluate the situation and make his move. Still, I don't know what drives Takumi to marry Hachi. I think he might really love her (esp. as chapters go on) because I honestly can't imagine why someone with his maturity level would go sooooo far to spite Nobu. Even after he wins Hachi at the end, he seems to not really care THAT much if Hachi goes off, and he doesn't seem to rub the victory in Nobu's face. After being devastated that Hachi chose Takumi, I was skipping ahead because the situation was getting worse and worse, and things seemed to be taking Hachi and Nobu further and further away from eachother in permanent manners. I honestly thought, how can the good girl end up with the playboy and the good boy end up with the pornstar? I guess that's Nana for you, not your average Shoujo. When I saw scenes of Satsuki, my heart broke further. I almost stopped reading Nana alltogether because of my passion for HachixNobu. But surprisingly, the angst between this couple who ended off so roughly made the story very interesting. After I accepted that Hachi was with Takumi, seemingly for good, I start to appreciate when Takumi treats her nicely. The situation isn't ideal, but I agree it made Hachi all the more less selfish and helped develop her character into someone whose responsible and caring. Nobu on the other hand, was an absolute sweetheart for the way he treated Hachi after she left him. I was brought to tears watching how roughly Nobu was making love to Yuri (the first time) and having all these memories of Hachi. I think Yuri is a symbol of Nobu moving on from his pain, growing up, and truly giving Hachi up for the sake of her happiness. I believe he will always love her (as Hachi does to him) but Nobu shows alot of maturity and conviction to step-aside. I think he got lucky with Yuri, and despite the fact that she's a pornstar, I kind of like her personality. She hasn't really mistreated Nobu in any way and I think she's serious about him. They're pretty sweet and I'm just happy Nobu can be happy and stop feeling so depressed. He needs his sunny disposition to continue to be the support to everyone around him and part of the glue that brought everyone together. I thought the future scenes had alot of ambiguity, and deep down I wish something can happen for Hachi and Nobu in some way. When I saw Ren, I immediately thought, NOBU's CHILD!!!! Ren Jr. is Satsuki's brother, is he not? I mean I considered that it could be like Reira's kid or someone else, or just another HachixTakumi child (it's hard to tell but we know he doesn't have dark hair which guarantees Takumi). Ren looks like Hachi & Nobu too. I always considered the idea that Satsuki might be Ren & Nana's child, though after Ren died it looks like that's sorta impossible. So anyway in the valentine's day future scene when Hachi was asking Satsuki who's she's giving her chocolate to, she suggested, "Takumi" no "Brother" no... and it turned out to be Shin. Since Satsuki shaked her head to brother, I'm assuming that Brother means Ren Jr and not Shin. Anyway I just think that's absolutely wonderful if the child pregnant Hachi carries throughout the story is the 1/10000000000 chance Nobu child. The child does call Takumi daddy and everything, but you honestly can't expect it to be like, after Hachi gives the delivery and the child is blonde (ie: Nobu's kid), that Takumi & Hachi suddenly break up and Nobu breaks up with Yuri... it just wouldn't go that way. Whether the child was Takumi or Nobu's, Takumi would raise it as his own. It probably went on that way, Hachi & Takumi stayed together and had another child Satsuki. It would also make sense for Hachi to take Ren's name, in honour of Ren (who died) and because Ren gave her the name "Satsuki" in the first place (recall: Hachi was also hoping for a male name containing the flower character incase her child was a boy). Further more in the future scenes, Hachi was discussing a divorce with Junko. Also we saw in these future scenes that retro doll that Nobu gave Satsuki, indicating that these scenes happen after the bathroom scene. So it's still so ambiguous but I'm curious about what happens! There's plenty of room for something to happen between Hachi and Nobu, whatever that something is. Also, I don't see Yuri around anywhere so until she shows up, I get the feeling that Nobu is on his own again and at that in. Blast never got together again (I'm assuming Nana is gonna go on her disappearance soon now that she's discovered Ren's death). It would be a great conclusion to the story if somehow, 6 years later, they find Nana at that tavern and things happen so that Blast is recreated by the end or something. That would be a great ending, eh? Anyway sorry for the long post, I know it's all over the place. I'm just sooo excited! Anyone know when the next chapter comes out? |

Because he actually does care for her. And by her getting married, and having to be a mother, she is being forced to actually grow up.
I still hate Takumi though. Would have been better for everyone if he had been the one who died, rather then Ren. |

I have just one question, i watched this anime long time ago, maybe 2-3 years back and i finally got around to finishing the last 14 episodes.
There was a flashback of Everyone getting together for the festival back at the old apartment when they were older. Everyone of blast was there except for NANA. what happend to her? did they just fail to tell her to show up or did she pass away or something!?! someone filled me in. and sorry for my cluelessness haha i sorta skimmed those last episodes. |

If you really want to know what happened i would say pop over the manga thread and read up although its very complicated one explanation will not be enough and it lead to you asking 20 more questions.

you're right about takumi, he's not too great of a husband but Oxtail, you're right about nobu and hachi,
Spoiler for nobuxhachi:
and the relationship with takumi is messed up, but hachi is aware of it Spoiler for takumi's behavior:
takumi's buisness-like attitude to everything he does even in relationships is his own way of protecting himself and hachi knows that, as air-headed as she may seem, she knows that in the end, this is who he is and nothing is going to change that. |

Marionette, just a note: I think manga spoilers are not favored here in the anime thread.
About Takumi and Hachi: the fact that Hachi is still staying beside Takumi and fighting for her position as a wife is a change, compared to her attitude with Asano-san, Shouji and Nobu. For the anime viewers, you will understand more about her decision of choosing Takumi from the later chapters of manga.
