well basically both yuuta and rikka are too much childish, their spende most of the times in their desillusion worlds or having problems to remember who their are "person" or who their are boy and girl( in real world interaction way), finally their are dealing with the facts who their loves each other and love is not just "i love you" and smile and some S&M(since looks like likes 'to hit her" ansd she dont have any problem get some "spank in the ass", being serious looks like the second season will be about them discovery what means being a true couple, love and relationship. by the way good episode probably this will be my "series of the year". |

It took them six months to hold hands, and that was only because Shinka gave them a push. At this rate it'll take them 30 years to lose their virginity. I guess it is a good thing that new girl is coming to shake things up. They need it.

Just like watching how each arc in Dragon Ball lasts for an eternity, Shinka eventually takes it to herself to push the story of Rikka and Yuuta forward. After a short date in a nearby aquarium theme park, Yuuta takes the advice of Shinka and classmate Kannagi and holds hands with Rikka. However, even the Akashic Records fail to teach Rikka on what love and their relationship truly is.
I gotta hand it to Shinka for actually helping the couple move to the "holding-hands" stage. But the best progress should go with the couple themselves. Hopefully, this mysterious girl with pink hair would be the conflict that would advance their relationship further. And I assume that "stalker girl" early in the episode is actually the girl in pink?

I think this episode just gave a collective finger at every single Harem anime ever that ended with the Confession, by skeptically raising one eyebrow, and asking "So, what's next?"
And that's precisely the whole central theme of the episode. Both Rikka and Yuuta have absolutely no clue where their relationship should go to - like the implicit premise of Harem Novels, they assumed in Season 1 that the Confession would be terminus end point of their relationship, and everything else would fall into place afterwards. The first 2 episodes are demonstrating just how naive, wrongheaded and silly that assumption is. The genius of this 2nd Episode is that it criticizes the assumption of too many Rom-coms that the "post-confession"stage of a relationship is utterly irrelevant. In other words, it attacks the Sentiment "if a Rom Com or Harem is resolved in the favor of one girl, the story would be over" that plagues too much of the genre now of days. That's what I loved about this episode here - it was a delightful finger pointed at every recent Rom Com and Harem anime that refuses to let the MC Commit to a girl for fear that the story would be over. I find this aspect interesting, and so far, this episode has done an excellent job at conveying that conundrum. Of course, it's up to the subsequent episodes to fulfill that promise. And, as previous commentators have already said, it's revealed that both Rikka and Yuuta are both more or less still Children. I don't think they'd go down that road, but really, it seemed as if Rikka's relation with Yuuta is something of a Puppy Love affair. Another theme I think the anime is attacking is the cliche that being in a Relationship immediately makes you a man or a woman. At this trajectory, I suspect they'd only get around to taking each other's virginity, once Rikka's grandparents starts asking for Great Grand Children... at which stage, they'd get down to it... or go for IVF treatment..... And on a side note, Kannagi was awesome, and the New Girl is FTW. |

Very cute date. Nice little bits of charming humor. The dolphin scene was genuinely fun to watch.
I can see where some might find Yuuta/Rikka's relationship a bit too much on the innocent side - six months simply to get to a holding hands stage really is pushing it, yeah - But I find their interactions sweet and heartwarming at least. Still, their relationship shows that romance does need passion, and that's the key ingredient missing for the two of them now. Rikka and Yuuta are clearly attached to each other and like each other and care for each other, but she's clueless about romance while he's actually cautious/patient to a fault. It's good that Nibutani is there to push them forward, because otherwise I could see their relationship sort of regressing to a friendship stage due to a lack of a necessary spark to push it forward and keep it strong. And yeah, having an outsider challenge their relationship directly might actually do it some good. Speaking of said outsider, nice cliffhanger introduction for her. I hope she'll get a real spotlight treatment next episode. It's funny that the first thing she talks about is showing off her "magic", because she really makes me think of Kaname Madoka at a visual level.
