And now for something different
For every franchise that becomes an A-list fixture in gamers' collective consciousness (Resident Evil/Biohazard, for instance), there are others that... don't quite make it. But neither do they sink into complete oblivion.
One of these B-listers - the Zettai Zetsumei Toshi/Disaster Report franchise - is resurfacing; Irem Software has a fourth entry (official site; Wikipedia entry; GameTrailers media collection) close to release (24 Feb.). ZZT's first and second iterations did see release in North America (as Disaster Report and Raw Danger!, respectively), and can probably still be found at present on eBay and in discount bins. Given that Ubisoft's own stab at this - I Am Alive - is in development limbo, the ZZT franchise seems to be the uncontested representative of the survival-adventure 'genre'. It'll be interesting to see how well this latest entry works.
