Hearing the theme song, I thought it comes from a Japanese anime, but I don't know the title either.

no its not that anime..
its about a boy who gets lots of maids as inherentence and then those maids follow him around where ever he gows they help him in school and all those kinds of things.

Yeah, it should be 244. There's nothing to be confused about. Gintama simply took a break for a while (after episode 202) and then resumed. Episode 244 is episode 244.

Several sites list the artist as Izumi Makoto or Hinata Momo. Both appear to work for the company Unisonshift Accent, so it's probably from one of their eroge.

As an expert relying on moe artstyles, I think it's Momo Hinata who illustrates it.

It's from this sample set by misu kasumi, who has 2 Sayaka/Kyouko doujins translated (MIDSUMMER and Let’s Kiss Everywhere! The Pumpkin Prince and a Stage Play) I am not sure which doujin it was a sample for though

If you look closely, she is the same girl as the one featured on the left side of the cover. The difference is that the one above is art from the Light Novel, and the one at the bottom is art from the anime.

She is Yozora Mikazuki from Haganai a.k.a Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai.

I am now trying to identify these two characters, having seen them again and I KNOW I recognize them. The question is: Where from?

The only clue I have is I remember seeing an anime with these characters from years back and it was apparently from a manga that ran in Shonen Jump (or one of the monthly incarnations). I really don't know where to begin looking.

Yeah, I literally went to post here that I just figured it out, thanks to a friend. He remembered seeing in Jump Ultimate Stars, so that slightly gave me a hint.
