Close your eyes, and you will find that everything is uniformly black, wherever you look.

Well depending on what I was just looking at, there could be some red/yellow/etc. in there.

Just kidding, I get what it's trying to say.

I like that quote of Hooves a lot. Many rather bask in ignorance, so definitely kudos to him~

"Greatness is a transitory experience. It is never persistent. It depends in part upon the myth-making imagination of humankind. The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in. He must reflect what is projected upon him. And he must have a strong sense of the sardonic. This is what uncouples him from belief in his own pretensions. The sardonic is all that permits him to move within himself. Without this quality, even occasional greatness will destroy a man." --- Dune

I don't even read Bleach, but this is a great one:

"Whether you owe someone or they owe you, the moment you start a fight, you're in the wrong either way."
~Kyouraku Shunsui, Bleach

Probably my favorite motivational quote, I have this pinned over my desk:

"There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something."
~Henry Ford

And of course:

"If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music."
~Gustav Mahler

"The difference between gods and daemons largely depends upon where one is standing at the time."

"The only true paradises are those that are lost to us."

Anyone have more grim sayings that speaks of truth that demoralise to share ? It'll make a nice break from all those wisecracks and motivational messages.

It's a shame the Warhammer universe confounds daemons with demons. They're two entirely different types of entities.

I do not know what you consider true, and some of them are wisecrack-ish, but here are some sayings you may like:

What is a human if not a Pavlovian dog in a Potemkian village on a placebo diet?

Humans are gods in the pantheon of insignificance.

Life is like alcoholism. It’s a really bad habit that will harm and eventually kill you, but it’s difficult to shake off.

"Life is a sexually transmitted disease, and the mortality rate is 100 %."
- R. D. Laing

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it was burnt in just one night.

The only comfort of the worsted lies in the realization that there is no hope.

Losing your mind is realizing you didn’t have one in the first place.

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.” (and the latter is the worse, I'd like to add)
- Oscar Wilde

“All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.”
- Friedrich Nietzsche

And now my favourite, it sums everything up so nicely:

"Tout existant naît sans raison, se prolonge par faiblesse, et meurt par rencontre."
- Jean-Paul Sartre

Roughly translatable as "Everything in existence is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance."

And because of that I ended up Googling the difference between daemons and demons.

"Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment"
I first heard it from Warhammer 40K's Dawn of War's Space Marine Librarian

"In winning all, we lost all. In winning what we thought mattered, we lost what truly mattered."
Some boss from some game, I forgot if it was Drakengard or Legacy of Kain.

This one's my personal favorite:
"For after all what is man in nature? A nothing in relation to infinity, all in relation to nothing, a central point between nothing and all and infinitely far from understanding either."
I first see it from Ace Combat and later learned it was Pascal's

Its a riff off of a "real world" quote by Nobel physicist Stephen Weinberg:

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. Without it, you'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion"

And before him, there were several quotes by various Nazis like Goebbels about using "righteousness" or "religion" to motivate people to do things they'd normally consider immoral.

"But Dog is God spelt backwards. So why is calling someone else "dog" bad?" - A 12-year-old kid with Asperger's Syndrome in a church, as told by a friend of mine earlier today.

That friend of mine is a moderate Christian, and goes to church as part of "family Sunday". He said him and his parents were laughing their asses off at the expense of the poor pastor.
