掛け替えのない (kakegaenonai) literally means 'irreplaceable'; it has a wide variety of uses but is also very often used to describe people held dear, and I think probably the most fitting.

From Daijirin:
掛(か)け替(が)えのな・い【掛け替えのない】 (kakegaenonai)

かわりになるものがない (irreplaceable)。このうえなく大切な (most important)。「―・い人を失う (eg. lose someone irreplaceable

From ALC:
掛け替えのない (kakegaenonai)
【形】
invaluable
irreplaceable(特別な物・人なので - something or someone special)

Examples:
掛け替えのない人 (kakegaenonai hito) - an irreplaceable person
掛け替えのない存在 (kakegaenonai sonzai) - an irreplaceable existence

Other examples you can find on ALC:
http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=%E6%8E...81%AA%E3%81%84

Actual usage with reference to works I remembered:
- Charlotte (anime)
Spoiler for ep 12:

- Omae wo Otaku ni Shiteyaru kara, Ore wo Riajuu ni Shitekure! (light novel)
Spoiler for volume 7 or 8:

- Ore to Kanojo Moeyopen (light novel)
Spoiler for volume 4:

Been checking out this address since I'm doing a report:

820-0607 福岡県嘉穂郡桂川町大字土師字笹尾39-4

So far I was able to translate the following:

820-0607 Fukuoka, Kaho, Keisen, Ooaza Haji, [?] 39-4

The kanji 字笹尾 is getting me confused. The English searches don't seem to include it. I need some assistance.

It is part of the address. 字 (aza) actually implicitly refers to 小字 (koaza) part of the address since 大字 (ooaza) is explicitly stated. It is like a smaller section/subdivision of the village. 土師 (Haji) is the 大字 while 笹尾 (sasao) is the 小字.

Hi there!

I'm currently trying to name a Japanese flavoured nation is my fantasy setting. Specifically I'm looking a place name with a sort a watery or maybe mercantile sort of tone to it. Government wise, the nation a long term alliance of island based merchant republics and they tend to be rather secular.

Any suggestions or tips?

The first word "kikuudan" seems to be a term specific to Grandblue Fantasy and it is the equivalent of a MMO guild. It means something like "sky riding group".

"I want to join your (or "a" if he's not talking to anyone in particular) sky riding group! Pleased to meet you!"

Saw this in some text related to the old PSP game Heroes Phantasia.

クラック・エンホース改

I translated it as "Crack Einhorse(?)". Not sure on 改 in terms of kanji translation.

Will need someone to check.

Basically means an improved/upgraded version of something. In Kancolle and Azurlane it's usually translated as "retrofit upgrade". I think Gundam or some other robot series have some units that were upgrades and have 改 or even 改-Ⅱ in their name, though can't recall off the top of my head.

A more "natural" translation would be "Mark II" or something.
But generally speaking, it depends on the context e.g. mecha stuff.

In HP, the name refers to a sword (Though depending on the main character used, can be changed to a spear or a rifle)...
