It's 12 episodes, but because of the delay, only up to episode 11 will be aired, because 5.5 took episode 6's broadcast slot instead. Staff said that there will be an announcement at the end of 11 for the finale though.

So if I understand well there are 12 episodes but episode 11 will be the last with an announcement at the end of this one ... I wonder if that is their announcement at the end of episode 11 ...

Don't forget that we still have 6 (or 7?) OVAs coming after the show ended

The first one is fanservice swimsuit ep. The second one seems to has a tank battle scene juding from its name. It's also possible that Anzio battle will be in one of OVA.

No, they intend to skip Italian-style team from the start.

Hint: Italian-style team doesn't appear in OP

Moreover, ep. 5.5 isn't a part of 12 intended eps. Even if they didn't air ep. 5.5, the story progression will be the same. It just that ep.12 will be in the original schedule insted.
