He was trying to say
times flies, but long enough for many people to be famous, just like shanks duel with mihawk, is such a legend and everyone's talk in the one piece world. He still remembers it.

its supposed to be a casual conversation, nothing important to the plot... but the "dueling with you and mihawk" and the "your dueling with mihawk" is so alike and the translator didnt pay much attention to this. but im sure this will generate lots of confusion in future. So, in fact, Whitebeard never mentioned he ever duel with shanks or mihawk.

Ener had Luffy's weakness and still Ener got his ass owned in EVERY aspect of the fight. It was evident that Ener could not fight with Luffy nor keep up with him as the battle prolonged itself.

Ener is no god, a title that was self proclaimed. Mihawk is known in a place by everyone where Ener will easily die, the Grandline.

Anime has its own set of physics and science.
Actually we shall ignore all the logic and physic, surely there are many logia users in the bluesea and mihawk knows it, being in the grandline for years, it will be a shame if he cant handle someone like enel and call himself the best swordman. the old school pirates dont even like devil fruits and find it a burden (i.e shanks and buggy). Seastone is one thing, anime physic is another, there's no limit what a swordman can achieve.

The Fight with Luffy and Enel was one where Luffy was not stronger, but smarter than his oppoennt in fighting technique, coupled with being his weakness. This is to say, that Enel was stronger than pretty much everyone shown so far who had a bounty figure (as Oda Stated in an SBS that Enel would be able to attain a 500 million bounty if he were to go to the blues, even on the Grand Line).

The power of Sword techniques is paramount as an equivalent to DF powers in the world of One Piece, and this has been reinforced time and time again. Even more so, it has been said that Mihawk travels with a sword technique to propel his ship (so imagining that he can develop cuts to deal with and harm Logia users, isnt really a real question). However, those below Mihawk muist be taken as no where near even half his equal for the most part (including everyone in Sky Piea).

Lastly, this little wondered at quote means something simple. Whitebeard and Shanks have not talked since before Shanks met Luffy, over 10 years ago. And he makes light of that passage of time as something insignificant to him. Which would also means that he sees as nothing having changed in teh world of any significance since the old days (presumably when Roger died).

Yes, that can also mean if someone come out and claim that a certain someone cannot be beatable, according to anime logic, it can be invalidated easily when the time comes, meaning it is not a "definite".

I went back and reread the chapters with Yassop (having completely forgotten who he was) and you can clearly see he has dreads in 96 (I didn't see the anime scene). I wonder why I forgot?

Anyway, Blackbeard being as strong as Shanks with two arms does sort of relate to him being stronger now Shanks is mostly armless. I'm not sure whether Ace will escape or be captured at this point.

Blackbeard isn't as strong as shanks with 2 arms ... after all he only managed to wound him, then he fled from shanks and ended up using WB as shield from shanks until he gather people and strengh..

Guess you haven't read or watched One Piece.....

Luffy was STRONGER and SMARTER than Ener, guess you really didn't see where Luffy was able to pound Ener into the ground throughout their fights and how Ener avoided him the entire arc. Lufy countered Ener's Mantra, Trident (which Ener stated that blades was Luffy's weakness) and even had better combat ability than Ener. Luffy said himself that Ener was "nothing" their are many more pirates on the seas "stronger" than Ener. Luffy has said that he seen stronger people on the seas but yeah Ener is the strongest we have seen so far.

By the way show me the SBS where Oda stated that Ener's bounty would have been 500 million berri? (Wikipedia is a bad source to believe)

One last time:

The fight between Enel and Luffy cannot be used to compare Enel to Mihawk or other strong characters. And, their strength comparison taking into account Luffy's rubber body does not mean anything at all if you want to compare it to any other case, as long as the other person is not made of rubber/wood/etc.
