This episode was so sad, Sodachi didn't even know she lost her mother and still thinking she's missing in some place. Araragi this time was the same as always, the one who can help people and take everything on his shoulders.

The next episode is probably the end of this arc.

PS: it's me or black hanekawa shows when Sodachi throw the tea?

First id like to say i waited an entire week to see Sodachi in her pajayjays and im not disappointed. Her house reminds me of how shaft would do minimalistic houses back in the day and to an extent a more stripped down version of Hitagis house. That extreme head tilt by Sodachi was stunning.

That voice acting on Sodachis part is amazing man. I thought we had seen a good range in the last few episodes but this puts it over the top. Gotta give it to shaft also for bringing out her true potential as well as mixing and engineering the sounds nicely. We do get to see so much development in this 1 episode towards her past and why she is the way she is. The most interesting part imo was that she only wishes her mother to be around to use her as an advantage for welfare. Brings a deeper and darker tone to the idea of family. Sad to see people leave her, but now we see why she is left in such an emotional state as that. Even her speech pattern is something that is a purposeful trait that was written in the story, to be repetitive.

Unlike last episode Hanekawa actually redeemed her self with that quote of hers.

To conclude things Arararararararagi's speech gave me chills at the end. With this being the 2/3 of the arc we will finally get that conclusion. The set up for it was well done by Sodachi.

BTW I wonder if people caught the references in this episode as well. Shaft really does know how to get the most obscure anime to reference.

Wow. This episode.

Beautiful. The inner dialogues and interpersonal problem with Oikura and her family (namely her mother) is a high point of this season imo. It shows a more vulnerable side. Not much word plays or Ougi this week but I'm fine with that. The conversation in that room is just so interesting.

This Sodiachi Lost arc has so far been no less than fabulous. Great episode. Can't wait to see how this will unfold from here. Also really enjoying the music used for the episode and the character expression + choreography was nice.

Monogatari is probably is only animated series where an entire episode can take place in a single room, the characters standing in one place and talking and still be good.

Yup, Sodachi is cray cray. Granted, she has her circumstances, but that doesn't necessarily explain everything. Her mom is dead, right? She never "disappeared". How the hell are they going to break the news to her without sending her even deeper into madness?

Marina Inoue proved once again she is one of the best voice actress in the business. Her performance in this episode sent chills on my spine. She pretty much carried the whole episode on her shoulders.

Loved Hanekawa in this episode once again. She's been so much more awesome since she resolved her issues in Tsubasa Tiger.

That's still nothing compared to Gintama. They once used only a single cut (which was just a shot of the outside of the house) for half of the episode, and it was great.

You sound like you know what you're talking about

Really, that is how it is. You're correct.

I mean, considering how frail I am, if I was happy, I'd get crushed. Like, crunch.

My eyes, m body, they'd be crushed. I couldn't bear the weight of happiness.
So Oikura couldn't achieve happiness because she was afraid to become happy.

She was afraid of the unknown outside her usual circumstances.

She became used to it.

She accepted it, that it was normal.

It was commonplace.

It was her fate.

Even with her parents gone and she had achieved freedom, she feared it.

She was more comfortable being unhappy and miserable.

A "lukewarm unhappiness".

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. This writing. This dialogue. Definitely in peak form.

Man, this was a tough episode. I get that all the domestic abuse and neglect really fucked Oikura up, but she's REALLY fucked up now. Her definition of happiness is all screwed up, and she's taking out all of her feelings on Ararag.

Wow.
Good episode.
I was a little lukewarm about all the building wondering if it was going to be worth it.
But it was good. I feel more for Oikura now.

You're not happy because you're not trying to become happy

good line from hanakawa, especially coming from her, since she too didn't come from a perfect family.

The hints were there, but I did go "ohhhhh" when it turned out Oikura coming over to play was actually her under protective custody due to Araragi's parents job.

SHAFT really spent a lot of their tilted head budget this episode

The circumstances hasn't been kind to Oikura, really sad for her. I hope there can be more that Araragi and Hanekawa can do for her as it seems as though her mother had committed suicide? It is quite puzzling though that she had carried on living with just the notion that she disappeared if she had really died. Feels like a part of her memory has been changed or suppressed? Which btw, that suspicion extends to Araragi as well for forgetting that Oikura existed previously in his life. Hmm...

Conspiracy theories aside, I'm very impressed with how Oikura's characterization is so deep and well done. I would likened it to how I was impressed with Hanekawa's characterization in Tsubasa Tiger. Speaking of which, could not have anyone better than Hanekawa from this series to befriend and talk to Oikura. Yup, she does not know everything, but she knows what she knows.

Sodachi Oikura can't be a tsundere on this episode!? Well, it's sucks that her mother disappeared without a trace.

While she wanted to see her mother again, I don't think it'll happen...

I don't know about "tsundere", but part of her problems stem from the fact she lies all the time.

Someone should consider making an AMV with this song.

It was a very heavy episode. So heavy that I don't know what exactly what I feel right now.

Happiness because Sodachi is one step into salvation?
Sadness after listening to her story and understanding her circumstances?
Rage at the poor upbringing she experienced from her parents?

Yeah, it's all too much.

Children, don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk and I tried to run
So I, I just gotta tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Unfortunately, Sodachi will be unable to hear those words from them.

Sodachi was basically only holding herself together, because she didn't know enough about happiness to know she was suppose to be unhappy.

Every time she experienced what happiness is, she gets reminded of how miserable the rest of her childhood was.

Most people "should" desire being happy tomorrow more than they are yesterday. But Sodachi's issue is she lives entirely in the past. She talks about her family as if they are still around, as if they are still ruling her life. She is technically more free and independent now than she ever was able to be in the past, but she spends her life looking backwards.

To her, she seemed refuse to acknowledge there is such a thing as "the future".

Sodachi seiyuu should get a freaking Oscar for the voice acting work of this episode.

You can feel the change in tone, every time she shift her emotions, and the insanity creep in with every line. Bloody hell. I don't even know if any Hollywood actress ever played such a well screen on a mentally unstable character
