Shueisha have decided that an artist's work takes precedence over the artist himself, in despite of calls for action from vigilante activists. Move on.

As long as the story is good.

This is the same policy I hold toward Roman Polanski and Bertrand Cantat.

No.

RK was always one of my favorites and it's tainted now. Do you, but fuck no I'm not supporting a pedo.

Shit like this is exactly why people hate anime fans.

I'm not going to support a pedo either, but movie fans aren't any better. Or politician "fans". Or, I'll bet, sports fans.

Somehow this gives people the wrong message that companies will support their big money makers no matter the heinous crimes they commited.

Oh, well. Everyone's surely entitled to their own opinions (as these past few pages of discussion can attest), but I can't go back to enjoying the art of an artist that so deeply disappointed me. But that's just how I feel. I'm sure one person isn't gonna make a dent in his following, so... I'll just make myself scarce.

Rurouni Kenshin was one of my favorite series growing up, tho. What a pity.

My only concern about Rurouni Kenshin was that it's been going for far too long.

It ended a long time ago. Watsuki then have made works like Busou Renkin and Embalming - Frankenstein. Unfortunately, he never quite reached the success he had with Kenshin. So he eventually get back to Kenshin. Think about mangaka like Tsukasa Hojo, his manga after Cat's Eye and City Hunter are alright but never at the level of fame of those two. Not everyone is Yoshihiro Togashi who scored big with Yuyu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter.

actually i found it mostly because of fame and over glorification of past works, I have quite the experiences with it, i get into manga fairly late when i got to late middle school-high school, of course, not counting doraemon in my childhood or some old anime where i get 1 and miss one episode on broadcast, which i actually reading Busou renkin and a few chapters of Embalming first before Kenshin, and i personally found Busou renkin better in many aspect, Embalming clearly hold the upper side when it's come to world building and lore, but among 3 pair of MCs, only 2 is interesting,. The same when it come to Dragon ball, by the time i actually read dragon balls, which i should already gone through a few manga before, i don't actually found it's that impressive, it is a good books, but i don't found it divine like what my friend told me.

In the end, you can never become incognizant to the malpractice of any business once the genie is out of the bottle, ubiquitous though they might be. Though whether it's Nobuhiro Watsuki or Doug Walker it's always a shame when the doubt seeps in as people fall from grace

Also, ostensible cultural relativism ITT FTW

Now I wonder he'll be able to continue working like one of his old assistant could.
seemingly yes, since i read that the hokkaido arc is still in publishing.
there is something that bug me: what if he really was framed? things like it are quite normal between jeallous co workers and watsuki doesn't fit in the perfil of a pedo, is quite weird that just until that year it was discovered, also, call me what do you want, but i still like RK, since is a manga related with deep messages, only because the writter did something bad doesn't reduce the value of such workl.

i'm not one of those that will despise someone eternally by a mistake, if watsuki is repentant of it, he deserve not be marked as a demon as i've seen in many series. and if is true the idea of the framing, we are being horrible people by trust such reports.

Please don't try to make up some bulls*it theory to excuse the mistakes of this man. the police found tapes at both his workplace and at his home. its one thing if its his workplace, but are you trying to tell me his "jealous coworkers" somehow managed to sneak and plant multiple tapes in his house without him noticing?

"watsuki doesn't fit the profile of a pedo". there are pedophiles who are more than capable of hiding their illicit attraction to kids, on the surface seeming like your average guy. today, many pedophiles are taking job positions that allow them easy access to kids, like pediatricians, pre school teachers, counselors etc. this allows them to hide in plain site, because they ensure they dont fit the profile of a pedo on the surface.

i'm not saying watsuki should be condemn forever, i do believe in rehabilitation whenever possible. if watsuki truly wants forgiveness and absolution, the first step is getting mental treatment for these evil desires if his. if he manages to do that, then maybe he will no longer be condemned.

however, do not try and make some bulls*it theories to excuse watsuki's behavior. if he is to take responsibility and be forgiven, you cannot make excuses for him, to try and redirect blame towards someone else.

As said, he got away with the slap of the wrist. The upcoming crossover Jump game won't even exclude RK.

There are people in the industry who get much worse for doing much less illegal things. (like voice actresses having personal relationships, for instance)

Yeah, that's (japanese?) entertainment for you, as it seems. I, for one, am more than happy to never read (or play) anything made by (or related to) the guy, ever again.

Sorry, I didn't read the previous pages, here you are talking about Watsuki? That you will never read anything by him again?
