Yep. Goblins primarily attack the frontier, which isn't well-defended because of the demon lords, cultists, and various dark forces at play. You'll never see a group of goblins planning to attack a big city filled with soldiers unless someone else is using them as minions or you got someone like a Goblin Lord. Half of the stories where they go do something else only to have goblins show up is usually because someone is controlling them, like in Water City.

Killing a goblin isn't hard. Getting swarmed by a group of the bastards? With poisoned weapons? And sneak attacks? That's a bad day.

That's a different story.

Edit: The Novel points out that the Rhea was above average in terms of chest size relative to her race and in the Novel she was eating a stack of six pancakes covered in honey. My teeth hurt just thinking about that.

Yeah, the goblin reputation thing seems pretty weird at this point. Sure, I could imagine in a big city there might be mixed opinions and a lack of goblin issues so they wouldn't care. But all the characters we are dealing with...aren't in anything like that. They are out in the middle of nowhere and should get it.

Anyways, this episode...was an episode. At least some things are moving ahead like the Priestess actually doing the smart thing of taking on...less dangerous jobs to build up some experience. Expecting her to lead a goblin slaying party is just pointless since that's way too much stress. Teaming up with that girl and going off to hunt some rats is a smarter approach.

Annoying kid is still annoying, but with every episode the dream remains alive...that he'll stop being in the show

while I still hate they are showing wizard boy... the chapter wasn't that bad. I did like a lot those three hanging out and I hope to see more of rhea girl.

Mmm... Wizard Boy came from a big city though. And as we've seen everyone else has pointed out he's still green in a lot of ways. Everyone else in that camp we've seen knows better and has been acting as such.

I like introspective scenes so was glad to see the boys' night out adapted. It probably counts as character growth that Goblin Slayer even accepted, and nice to hear more of his thoughts (and even acknowledgement of the girls around him, he's not just oblivious). Goblin Slayer used to have big dreams of being a hero too but can't pursue them anymore, something the other two sympathize with.

He is a hero though, even if he doesn't recognize it. To the people of the frontier, he's their champion. Bards sing of his valor and it's clear he's making a difference in their lives. But he's experienced so much hardship that he just doesn't register it.

What if an enemy casta a dangerous terrain right under her?

That's something Knight lady should teach her before holding onto her shield.

On another note... Is Female Knight a pre E5 Paladin? You know since it used to be a fighter subclass and she says she wants to be a paladin, hinting that she'd need to be a knight first.

Spear guy btw reminds me of Fate's Cu for some reason, just that Cu is smoother.

Also despite what GS is saying, Cowgirl is totally his wife. I mean people even asks her whether he can go out drinking with them

Female Knight actually used to be able to use Miracles from the God of Justice, but she lost access to her Miracles sometime over the last five years, so she only has her martial skills and noble education now.

And Spearman's placeholder by the author during the designs was actually Cu from FSN. Similar to how Heavy Warrior is basically Guts.

Edit: More about Female Knight, a Paladin is basically a Holy Knight. But Knighthood isn't hereditary, you have to earn it. You can become a Paladin by serving a Church or a Temple, but she chose to do it by adventuring instead.

His hero status is even bigger than that if you follow Year One, which was alluded to in volume 3, which... for some reason the anime skipped I think?

He is. A LOT of the character designs are based on existing characters in other franchises. Goblin Slayer is based off of an enemy from Dragon Quest (with personality from western comics), Priestess is from Dragon Quest III, High Elf Archer is Sinon from SAO, Dwarf Shaman is from HxH, Female Knight is based off of Agrias from FFT, Male Knight or Heavy Warrior or whatever his name is is based off of Guts, Hero is based off of Haruhi, etc.

Yep, they skipped the festival including both the date and the overall plot. I think in the OP they show him using the Mambele, so they might go back to it.

Yeah, he is a hero, hes got bard singing him praises all over the continent, that was the entire point of all of his companions having their own heroic nickname for him in their native tongues.
So yeah, hes been hero hes just far too damaged from all the trauma and so committed to his genocidal campaign that hes unable to realise it

Can't believe Annoying Boy still in story =0v. Least he was a bit more tolerable, since he was among similar-leveled peers, but he is still s***. Guess its like serenade_beta said; can't have made him worst, so it'll only get better, but s*** that smells like roses is still s***. We will see how he does in next ep with goblins. Still makes no sense why he says nothing can be learned from GS, when he still don't know s*** himself.

It is even possible he is more known than the actual Hero somehow(unlikely, but it could be possible), but what he wanted to be was strong; stronger than any goblin or 'evil' force out there. But unfortunately he is anything but. He can barely hold his own against goblin champion, while his other silver-ranked guildmates can. I'm surprised he is only as good in combat as he is; between him and LP, GS is always the one getting wrecked for some reason(I don't think I've ever seen LP get seriously hurt); he could definitely use some proper combat lessons.

This very good point. It is even possible he is more known than the actual Hero somehow(unlikely, but it could be possible), but what he wanted to be was strong; stronger than any goblin or 'evil' force out there. But unfortunately he is anything but. He can barely hold his own against goblin champion, while his other silver-ranked guildmates can. I'm surprised he is only as good in combat as he is; between him and LP, GS is always the one getting wrecked for some reason(I don't think I've ever seen LP get seriously hurt); he could definitely use some proper combat lessons.

He can probably hold out against those just fine. It's just the Worf effect.
He also has equipment specialised against goblins and rather unrealistic compared to other characters.

That's not exactly what I was talking about. First of all GS choose to kill goblins, it wasn't something that he was forced to do due his lack of skill. Goblin Slayer wanted to do great things and achievement, but he realised someone has to do pest control and noone else was willing do it.

Well if we talk about skill, it's true he is not particularly talented and his comrades are stronger and faster then him, you have to consider how much better he would perform if he didn't intentionally use subpar gear and weapons. Not to mention lot of his tactics work universally. His water cutter scroll would probably one-shot even dragon and it's not just goblins that dislike breathing poisonous gas or smoke.

And speaking of LP while it's true he never got wrecked I don't think he ever got boss kills either. DS is mostly support and HEA while she got several boss kills had some rough moments in return. GS is not as strong as them, but he is still in same lague.

Goblin Slayer found himself concerned about leaving the newbies, which was conflicting because he knew logically he should go gather information. After coming to the conclusion he was wasting time thinking about it, he told them that returning to town would be the best course of action but if it was impossible then to stay until morning and then run as the screams got louder and weapons clashed.
The first dead adventurer GS came across had no face, as the Goblin had torn through their head from crown down. The build suggested it was a woman and the limbs were still twitching, so it was a recent kill.
He then kills two more Goblins, noting they had stolen tools and one had tried to use a Pickaxe to his face. Priestess arrived then, having been resting in her room since she was worn out from healing duty.
The reason Witch was using her version of a Light Spell was that no one wanted to use fire due to the wind being strong enough that if anything caught on fire it would be a catastrophe.
Goblin Slayer's reasoning for it being just a clever Shaman was because if someone else was leading the Goblins they would be treated as foot soldiers rather than the main force, as no one but a Goblin would use other Goblins to dig a tunnel to attack training grounds.
Priestess wasn't sure what triggered her anxiety, other than the fact that it might have been some sort of hint from the gods similar to when she entered the cave on her first adventure. She didn't want to ignore it like she did before and felt that she had to do something. She was also reminded of how the large army could be used as a diversion by the Goblin Lord to accomplish a task, which GS had told her previously.
Everyone told Priestess they believed she could do it, but she wanted to hear it from Goblin Slayer. If he said that she couldn't then she would have accepted that it was better if she didn't, so hearing him ask if she could do it left her wanting to rise to his expectations.
The tunnels were tighter in the Light Novel, but Spearman could still use his long polearm without any problems due to his experience. He then complains about GS throwing his weapons away, to which he states they're meant to be consumables, and while magic knives that come back when thrown exist he didn't want Goblins to get one.
Since their party was mixed from normal, the formation was Goblin Slayer and Spearman in the front row, with High Elf Archer behind them and the spellcasters in the back. Normally Lizard Priest would be in the front instead and he wasn't fond of being held back and passive.
The reason GS used the coin pouch as an impromptu weapon was because none of the Goblins they killed had decent weapons he could borrow. The pouch was more than enough to break their skulls and was poetic justice since that money was earned from villagers to help with Goblin Quests.
There were also a lot of Goblins who broke through the walls, more than the anime showed by far. The Deflect Missiles spell went up first before they even started swarming them (making it so they didn't need to worry about archers), and Spearman basically killed any that got within his reach while GS made sure his back was protected and dealt with any in front of him or that Spearman missed by chance. The Shaman was casting Magic Arrow, the most basic of all magic spells.
Goblin Slayer still got some light injuries where his armor had been pierced through, hence why he drank the Potion (he knew it was that because of the knot on the bottle while fighting) before throwing the bottle and stabbing the Goblin he was fighting.
The rookies heading home had run into the woodlands since they thought it would give them an advantage instead of being surrounded by the open fields. Their numbers had been reduced from about fifteen to five by the time that Priestess' group arrived.

This was after the events of Volume 3 (which was skipped), and the place they landed was the Adventurer's Training Ground sometime after the whole mess above.
Draining that lake had consequences, namely that the ground was soft and it would be difficult to build around it. Like GS causes immense property damage whenever he does stuff like this.

while I'm happy that wizard boy is gone, I'm sad that rhea girl went with him.

I can't believe goblin slayer laughed like that.
