To be precise, playing through the story(the anime+Novels) is singleplayer and a variety of side modes are also singeplayer, but the open world and pvp(obviously) is the multiplayer aspect, where you're supposed to interact with other people, you still don't have to though but they'll still be there when you handle the world events that happen throughout the city

The Virtual-On website has been updated with the character pages for Shirai and Shokuhou as well as info about the Tokyo Game Show.

The show will be held from September 21-24 with the last 2 days being the public exhibition. There will be some goodies available to pick up.

The schedule for the Tokyo Game Show is up!

The first stage event for A Certain Magical Virtual-On will take place at 2:30pm - 3:15pm JST on September 21. Producer Watari Juuro and Director Seiichi Makoto will present. Dengeki Playstation's deputy editor-in-chief will also be there as a guest.

The second stage event will take place at 3:00pm - 3:30pm JST on September 24. Index VA, Yuka Iguchi, and Misaka Mikoto VA, Rina Satou, will also make guest appearances.

The first day of stage events will be livestreamed on youtube below.

Looks like the Boost-weapon is activated using the touchpad on the PS4 controller.

The developers played two rounds live- one with Temjin/Touma the other with Raiden/Mikoto.

I'm no expert but it looks pretty much like Virtual-On with two exceptions:

1) Victory is base on a point-based system instead of KO. Even if you are KO'd, if you scored more points at the end of the round you'll still win.

2) Boost Weapons are the pilot's signature move and used like a super move. Mikoto's her railgun while Touma has the Bionic Arm

Index/Bal-Bados uses 'cutesy' attacks like neko-beam and icecream cone missiles. Her boost weapon is the Angel Feathers from Dragon's Breath.

Kuroko/Fei-Yen moves pretty fast and they were showing some kind of block function? Her boost weapon is to summon a rain of swords that looks like it chases after the opponent.

Misaki/Angelan is a mage type character that summons a golden dragon and ice shards. Her boost weapon.... Just summons a golden dragon and 5 ice shards.... Not entirely sure what it does.

The game was going to be at Dengeki's Fall Fest. Could it be?

Also, the 2nd stream as confirmed there will be a playable character that hasn't shown up in the anime.
