I don't know, but bless their sweet little hearts for putting up with it.
Thank you... it's been a while since I added something to my candid school girls image collection. That looks as close to an anime girl transported to real life as anything I've seen. The skirt, the boots, the coat, the scarf... I feel... like.... I need to protect her.

i don't know if this is also RELATED to the Japanese culture TOPIC...
long before "Transformers" were created, aswell with the collaboration between Takara (now + TOMY) & Hasbro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= its kinda sad that most people these days forgets & ignores on where the heck did they came from anyway, much the same with Bandai's Machine Robo series...

I remember I didn't need a winter coat when I was going to school in Japan... It was really warm all winter in Tokyo... All I had to protect my legs was knee socks... See?
Spoiler for pic:
Heh. That's me and friends on our school grad trip. I pixelated our faces out;; We wear the exact same stuff for winter except with a blazer on top. Ugh, sailor suits. We had polo shirts with blazers. I was happy with that.

I don't think it's fake snow. There's no way to know for sure, but there's something about that one that makes me pretty sure it's a candid shot of a regular girl. Looks like she may have just got off of a bus.
Here's some "real life" school girls. Not candid, but still casual, and the girls who turn around to give the "V" get extra points for playing along nicely when they know they're being filmed. @Haladflire65 - I've always been under the impression that Tokyo got pretty cold in the winter, but looking at a map I see it's around the same latitude as the area about halfway between San Francisco and LA. I always thought it was further north.

No, heh.... Its possible it was a girl participating in a photoshoot, so "staged" means it was not candid/lucky/random. However, its a lovely photo especially if it is candid.
The video is interesting... japanese in general seem to take being photographed in stride (Google-van excepted). A few friends of mine say its almost impossible to *take* a photo in many parts of Japan without random people jumping in and flashing the "V" sign and smiling.

I didn't realize so many Japanese schoolgirls wore their skirts so short... how does that work on stairs? I know I remember seeing at least one girl at an anime convention whose costume didn't seem to take stairs into account...

Tokyo does not get that cold, though, so skirts aren't as bad here as, say, somewhere in Niigata, Nagano or Hokkaido. The amount of snowfall per year is usually not too bad as well; last year, it took darn near forever for the first hint (and I meant "hint" ) to actually fall. It's the cold + the wind = a bad combination. Would girls wear pants if their schools allow them to be worn in girls' uniforms, though? I heard - but can't find the source ATM - that the uniform for, say, flight attendants was a big draw for prospective female employees.
