Exclamation Ever Heard of Zatoichi

I just recently heard about Zatoichi which is a blind Samurai. Theres a new movie coming out called Zatoichi. I wanted to know if anyone ever heard of it. I downloaded it but has no subtitles. Its in japanese i think. Are there any sub title groups who has subtitled it or want to?

Actually there are a lot of Zatoichi movies, zatoichi is like the japanese version of Robin Hood or Zorro.

About this latest one: I'm sure someone will do it soon (someone probably already has) but since it's not anime it won't be listed on animesuki.

Are you talking about the one made/starring Kitano "Beat" Takeshi? That one is great...but...

I STRONGLY recommend that you see Katsu Shintaro's version of the Zatoichi series from the 1960s and the 1970s.

Man.... I wish there's a Complete Collection of it instead of just the Best Collection.

I think he's asking about the new version made in 2003, by "Beat" Takeshi.
That one's too new to be on the list. As of now US only have the Classic version from 1960~70s, but they are indeed the best.

I just checked Yahoo Japan..... It does have English + Japanese Subs.

Wouldn't that be like 5000 hours long?

The fansub forum is for discussing anime series currently available as fansubs. Since Zatoichi isn't anime or even fansubbed I'm moving it over to the general chat forum.

So you're saying there is absolutely no Zatoichi anime ever made?

Yes. From what I know Zatoichi was live-action movies and was never made into an anime.

There are over 20 movies and there also was a TV series. But no anime version.

In the U.S. the Zatoichi movies are occasionally on the Bravo and/or other Art-House channels. I enjoyed the movies, but after 4 or 5, it became quite apparent that the same storyline/cliches are used over and over again.

Z the Killer/Masseuse comes to town being pursued by relatives/villians from previous/first movie encounters. He gets involved somehow with the local gangster activity while gambling (using his blindness as a trick to appear foolish)/massaging somebody (appearing harmlessly foolish) and helps out some pretty lady who will fall in love with Z (who in turn will feel attracted but repulses her because he's unworthy/blind/ugly...Whatever!)...Meanwhile lots of excitingly implausible fight sequences occur, all the bad guys die sliced up by Z's sword and he walks out of town leaving all the bodies behind, wailing pretty women bereft to go onto the next sequel.

No need to see all 20+ movies, wouldn't mind seeing the Beat-version though, to see if anything new is added.

There's even a made-in-Utah U.S version with Rutger Hauer! Mildly amusing.
