Pretty surprised by this tbh. The TV anime still hasnt started yet (Fall season) and they're already doing a movie for Vol 6. Seems like they're putting a lot into this. Hopefully this means that the TV series will be 2-cours adapting the earlier 5 volumes tho.

Yeah, let's hope that will be the case along with it being 2-cours

If they are going to cover 2 volumes in one movie, then most likely the TV anime will be one cour covering 5 volumes

As much as I'd hate to admit it, that sounds pretty plausible (and most likely will be the case too) tho I'm holding out hope just for the sake of it.

Wow, I'm not used to a movie announcement for an anime that hasn't even aired yet. Not that I mind, because I'm really looking forward to getting into this series, but still kind of surprising .

I guess either the production committee had a lot of confidence in the source material or are really banking on the series being a success.

According to Anime News Network by way of Aniplex giving official word. The movie has a confirmed English title now. Rascal Does Not Dream of Dreaming Girl the Movie. This gives me great hope that the movie may get some sort of theatrical release, if not my money is on it coming to Crunchyroll some time after it airs in japan.

From what I saw it looks like this would be very heartwrenching.

I tend to keep away from the hype but I really hope this movie lives up to the expectations of those that watched the first season.

I'm not too worried about it living up to expectations, even if they're a bit higher than for the previous arc since the author has been slowly building up Shoko's mystery.

Watched it in cinema. That was...an emotional ride. Everyone really did their best here, Sakuta, Mai, Shoko, Futaba....Really drives home why this title's cast is so loveable. Sakuta's situation is just so screwed up there was just no good solution he could have done. Really makes one think what one would do in his shoes.


Truly beautiful. Looks like all the good titles are generally on movie format these days

At the end, it looked like Shoko was healed or at least her condition is under control. What happened to her? Also looks like the memory wipe wasn't perfect since Mai still had the impetus to do that movie based on Shoko while Sakuta retains his knowledge of her....most fortunately for all three of them of course.

I just watched the movie. And yes I agree this is a beautiful movie.

Basically, the child actor Mai dreamt of this future of wanting to something for Shoko. So, she went to take this role and did well enough to attract donors to come forward to donate the heart. And if you noticed, the last time the van crashed into the lamppost instead.... So, the driver probably died instead and this time he is with the donor card (influenced by Mai). So, Shoko lived and not only that, the young young shoko now knows she will live and so happily fills the form during class

And Shoko wanted to redo everything so that she wont bring pain to sakuta. So all the drama never happen. That is why Mai or no one else ever had memories of it. Sakuta only just remembered it after seeing Shoko. Until then, Sakuta only knew the Shoko version on the beach.

My theory of the true timeline:
1) Sakuta met Shoko in hospital due to Kaede and gave her the 3 sets of words. Sakuta probably wished someone would tell him those 3 words to save him.
2) Young Shoko remembers it in her dreams and proceeds to comfort Sakuta.
3) Sakuta recovers and ends up able to win Mai heart and ultimately dies due to that. Shoko survives due to his heart
4) Shoko dont want Sakuta to die, now begins the movie to save Sakuta, but end up Mai dies instead and so....

Looks like it's screening in select theaters in US and Canada. The film will screen in the United States on October 2 and 3, and in Canada on October 4 and 5. Advance ticket sales begin on September 6.

Yeah I understood that bit where Shoko rebooted (more like chose not to have that future come to pass) everything. But it's beautiful how the connection still remains in everyone and prompted Mai to do that movie to help Shoko. Essentially Shoko kind of sacrificed herself there but everyone else would not allow it deep down inside and worked to save her even if they cannot consciously perceive it.

BTW, there is no "true" timeline per se. Since it's a simulation all possibilities are technically present. But yes, that's what basically happened here. Then following that the Shoko that survived with Mai's heart and who married Sakuta came back to try to put everything back in place again

Also....I heard from friend that Melbourne Madfes will be screening the movie. So heads up to the Australia ppl here
