^Bullseye!
^^Though not as "Japanese" as Lulu, he still shows Japanese traits which is considered ugly in this world He never being described as Ikemen, maybe average at best But Outward Appearance never mattered that much in this series I mean, we never knew whether Sugar's girls are among the prettiest in the world or not, no one ever appreciated their beauty It's like in a shoujo manga where everyone looks the same except the MC (Lulu) being especially ugly

Maybe this is like that Tsuki ga Michibiku novel where everyone is either a bishojo or bishonen by default

^Probably like that
Everyone is beautiful, but thus also means no one is beautiful All Lives Matter = No Lives Matter No one appreciates beauty or life for that matter if it's something everyone has Maybe that's why Sugar hates the harem idea Is there any point making a harem out of these generic looking girls? Clearly no one in this story is envious of him having a harem So this harem must be worthless

I'm also not sure if those around him actually see the girls as anything but his servants. When they wanted to honey trap him they chose "ugly" girls because they thought Lulu specifically was his lover for some reason.

WN from the beginning (there are a few differences like the like a few characters dying in WN but surviving in LN, as well as different order of events). LN from vol. 4 because the anime covered vol. 1-3. But there are still missing details like the explanation of Arisa's unique skills so it might be worth it to start the LN from the beginning as well. I think you are fine to start from vol. 4 if you read the manga though, since the manga AFAIK covers the things that the anime skipped.

As for reading the story, I would recommend the WN simply because it's much further along. And due to the slight differences and the extra stories there is also no harm to read the LN as available as well.

I recommended reading the WN simply for its more detailed story of Satous's journey. The Author also included a lot of good intermissions and side stories in the WN. I have no clue if the LN has them as well.
