Four chapters are out so far and it's pretty good. Harumi Chihiro is a really great author. This one has a great story and a bit of mystery to it as well. A nice blend if you ask me.

This manga is indeed pretty good, especially for it's beautiful art and romance/h-ness story between the main girl Kano(ko) and the male lead (Nitta) who got into this strange relationship with her due to a hube debt.

Nitta isn't just a push-over and it seems Kano kinda starts liking Nitta more and more. Although the main lead (Nitta) was treated in the beginning of the manga like an "errand boy" by Kano she started to (slowly) show signs of affection towards him (like a true tsundere) and the same goes for Nitta as the story unfolds.

Currently the raws are up to vol.3 ch18.

Yes, she is a true tsundere. I think they refer to it as classic or original, not sure. But she is the cutest twintail I've ever seen.

I wouldn't call him a 'boy toy' since the father does not know exactly (or turns a blind eye to) what she does with him. I figured she was a girl who got in a lot of trouble, and after being unable to keep any hired help, the father found ways to get poor slumps to wait on her.

Why him? That we'll have to wait and see. I have a couple of ideas, but only time will tell.

We have gotten ourselves pretty close to Netorare, though technically it wouldn't be so as Nitta doesnt have at this point special feelings towards Kano and in fact expects her to be kind of like a slut/whore who plays around in the orgies all day long with her friends. Still, pratically it would feel like NTR anyway, so that still counts.

We learn a few other things. After her last arguemnt with Nitta Kano suddenly changed her mobile phone number and did not bother to tell about it to most of her "friend".

Seems like Yuki is pretty close to Kano as she told him and her parents about changing her mobile phone number (in order to avoid Nitta).

Though Kano changed her number, when posed directly if she should stop 'playing' with Nitta and unfreeze the debt she refuses telling she will play with him for a while still. (soba-scans missed the word 'play' for some reason and translated it as "I am not finished with him" though it should have been "I am not finished playing with him").

She then goes on to refuse Yuki's advances to leave the orgy and call Nitta.

We learn that the Kano's father's firm does not give individual loans, meaning that Nitta was for some reason chosen target of some particular scheme.

We also learn that Yuki is very quick and skilled at taking Kano's pants off.

Like you said in the Jcafe velvet Kiss thread you can (already) see Kano (starting to wonder) how come she feels like (she wants) it with Nitta while it looks like she isn't even in the mood to do it with her friends (Yuki) nor joining them at their "parties".

When she came to see Yuki she seemed rather reluctant and even answered that guy in front of the appartment that she doesn't know if she's in the mood to "join them".

Even if Yuki seems to be the closest one to her from her "friends" (the only one of them who knew that Kano changed her number) he couldn't get her in the mood to have some "fun" with him even irritating him that she showed more interest in her cell phone (..) than his advances (I wonder who was on her mind while playing with the cell phone.....Nitta...)

I am glad she didn't gave in to Yuki, but just seemed utterly bored and after she got the phone call asking her if she's "finished playing" with Nitta she said no and decided to leave him and her "friends" while calling Nitta to go rent a movie to see it together.

Ch07 is even more awesome as it expands on this as we see Kano really bothered by her ringing cell phone while she's being intimate with Nitta which pissed her off that much that she bluntly told Yuki "she's busy" (..) and hung up on him...

With ch15 seemingly nasty cliffhanger out of the way thanks to proper translation, I guess that leaves us only ch11 to find out if Kano (still) had sex with Yuki (after meeting Nitta) when they left together after having dinner with Kou and the other girl.

It's really nice to see Kano warming up more an more to Nitta and seeing her question herself why Nitta makes her feel the way she does when she's with him but not with her "friends".
Now it's time for Nitta to see Kano for what she really is to him (excluding the debt-arrangement and his "wrong" image of her being a "nympfo"). I want Nitta to find out (soon) that Kano is only like that with him and not with her "friends" so he can see her as a real romantic interest instead of

Rumi whom I start to doubt more and more; not in the least because she resembles Kano's scheming (step?)mom, but especially because of the seemingly suspicious way she bumped into him on the streets (after) listening to his phone call and sometimes she even gives the same (devious) look Kano's (step?)mom has.
However I could be very wrong and "seeing" things that aren't there as I only skim through the raws without knowlegde of what's being said.
But like darknemo2000 said before, Rumi could just be an innocent and sweet girl genuinely interested in Nitta, to give Kano some serious competition for Nitta considering Kano's "slutty" past (where she used to "join her friends in the orgies") and different social status

So yeah I am staying with my thesis that she actually doesn't enjoy it and it is as mean of socializing with her friend rather than something to gain pleasure. The reason why she offers nitta sex the first time is not because of the pleasure but as revealed in chapter 7

Personally I find NTR term is good because it involves not only actual situation but the feeling of situation as well, because sometimes not the situation that invokes us that sinking feeling but the feeling of the situation (as in we feel more NTR not when we know that she is a wife and cheats on her husband though we dont see husband at all, but when its childhood friends and when she goes for another guy).

Netorare is a wide term but I think it is pretty fine the way it is and there is no need for additional terms at all as some situations are just too difficult to tell apart.

But again I am uploading and tagging (as a tagger you need to know quite a big about niche things like Netorare) for quite a while so being able to tell NTR is usually pretty easy for me and usage of the term is ease since i have been using it for so long (since 2002 I think).

I would say the situation almost ended in NTR cause it still evokes us that sinking unpleasant feeling in the stomach that most NTR do. Luckily it didnt turn completely into it.

Yeah at least her friend respect her, but frankly it seems like she gives them the place to do their orgies so naturally they give some respect. None seems to be put off by her expressionless face and not really willing cold attitude though since it is what they are used to. For those who visit MF you probably know there are chapters 7, chapter 8 and chapter 9 released by one guy. It is still amateurish work and far from official Soba-scans releases but it can still work as a nice kind of spoiler.

I will use spoilers in this case as those are not official scans.

Spoiler for Chapter 7:

A pretty cute chapter all in all speciall after the nTR scare we had in the chapter before.

We leran that Nitta continues having trouble at work due to Kano sucking most of his focus and freetime out.

Kano orders him to bring horror movies and forces him to watch it with her. Nitta seems to really be afraid of horror movies, much to Kano's pleasure as Kano gains another mean to tease Nitta with, like a true classic tsundere.

It gives a nice warm, couple atmosphere as Kano is holding Nitta's arm though Nitta is trying hard not to watch at the screen.

The horror movie scene is important as it reveals the reason past some of Kano's acts.

Kano feels that adults hide behind the fake masks and only strong emotions can beat them out of it and drop their acting. Feelings like being scared, excited etc.

Interestingly enough she considers Nitta to be part of 'them' (aka Adults), while she herself due to her young age isnt part of adults and is just enjoying taking adults masks off.

Which leaves us and Nitta wondering if the reason why Kano had sex with Nitta to begin with was her attempt to peek behind the 'adults' mask using sexual excitement. Whatever the reason was, it backfired Kano as she is now pretty much addicted to having sex with Nitta, as she is experiencing pleasures and feelings she never did with her 'friends'.

Yuki calls Kano but for Kano, Yuki and her 'friends' seem to be less important than watching film with Nitta and tells Nitta to turn the phone off.

Eventually Kano gets excited and orders Nitta to turn the movie instead and starts groping Nitta in the dark (shouldnt that be guys job, lol?).

All the sex the two had before was with some light, now though it is in a complete darkness which gives new sensations to their bodies as they have to rely much more on touching than other senses.

Kano is once again shocked by the reactions her body makes with Nitta. They start having sex but the pestering Yuki calls again, this time annoyed Kano picks it up and shouts that she is too busy and without waiting for the answer hangs it up and turns it off and returns back to Nitta to continue.

Kano cums while making cute voice and expressions. Yuki meanwhile is getting a blow job from some girl and is getting annoyed by thelack of interest from Kano lately.

Was a good and cute chapter. Pretty waffy too.

In this chapter Nitta gets called from kikuchiya and to his surprise meets Kano's step-mother Yoriko.

Yoriko looks elegant young lady who is worried about her step-daughter.

Kano's mother died when Kano was very young and her father never had time for her, thus Kano grew up as a very lonely child.

Kano rarely returns home and just stays in a hotels or with her friends. So Yoriko has no chance to be with Kano thus she asks for Nitta to look after Kano even not for just a contract. Nitta promises her that.

Nitta puzzled comes to Kano's hotel is hungry and carries his work as because of Kano he doesnt have any time left to do things.

Kano offers him pizza, but when Nitta agrees that little tsundere teases him that he will be fed only after he does some naughty stuff with her.

Nitta remembers Yoriko's words that Kano is just a very lonely child while Kano is looking at him with unusually soft expression and gentle smile.

They have sex again. Once again Kano gets very sensitive and excited (Nitta isnt as much enjoying himself).

After sex, while lying in bed Kano tells Nitta that he can leave now, but Nitta remembering Yoriko's plea says he will stay until she falls asleep. Which earns an odd look from Kano and "Whatever" as she turns away from him.

Then Nitta wishes her goodnight, and Kano is shocked as she havent heard goodnight from anyone in many years.

Kano spends her most times alone in hotels rather than at home. Falls asleep and wakes up alone so wrods like goodnight are allien and hard to understand as she is always alone.

Her 'friends' are there only for orgies and sex after all so no warmth from them as much as from her home.

A sad chapter as we learn more and more about Kano's past ant her heartbreaking loneliness.

Yes, but the scanlations is very poor, plus it is scanlated from chinese so its a double translation so some details are missing and the scanlator doesnt know how to translate some of the characters names so left the chinese characters instead.

Well Soba-scans are slow (mostly because they work on other stuff too) so it will be months before they catch up with chapter 9 at least.

As for Velvet Kiss omake of volume 1 (volume 1 consists of chapters 01-08), it was pretty cute, though only two pages long.

Kano accidentally gave all her clothes to laundry and forced Nitta to buy her clothes. Nitta doesnt know Kano's size so end up byuing baggy clothes and T-shirt with ironic name "I <3 Money". Kano complained about the clothes (in your usual tsundere fashion) but ended up liking them and wearing them a lot.

Chapter 9, reveals more about the Kano and kisses.

Shows us why Nitta and Kano doesn't kiss during intercouse, as when he once tried before, Kano just stared at him oddly and did not respond so he gave it up as he is only Kano's sex-friend and thus there is no need to sensual kisses on the lips.

Then he brings Kano to the place where he helps boys baseball team. Kano is sulking and is complaining in the usual tsundere fashion (sun is too hot, air is too smoky, kids suck at playing etc.) but ends up getting into the game and cheering for kids.

They have a nice party with the booys after the game, and when Coach asks Nitta who is Kano to him, Nitta, starts saying a "friend" but corrects himself that Kano is just his "acquittance", pretty much shows that Nitta does not consider Kano as someone close to him.

Yuki calls but kano as always rebuff him. Then when she and Nitta are alone she says that she enjoyed her time, though says that it had nothing to do with Nitta (making Nitta angry, lol) while giving a secret smile.

Another cute chapter. Considering the name of the manga (Velvet Kiss) its pretty obvious that kiss is one of the central things in this manga, at least in my opinion.

Kiss is very sensual act, of course there are various types of kiss, but as a rule kiss is pretty intimate thing, not as much as physical level but on a psychological one.

And it could be one of the keys to this manga. As Kano has sex, but it is not intimate and she doenst feel sensual closeness with it as its just an act of mating, (even at the start of her relationship with Nitta she is pretty distant), but kiss cannot be as easily brushed away. Its kind of a symbol of personal act in this manga, compared to nonpersonal act (when in orgies) - sex.
