Personally, if you've already seen the first Negima anime, it's okay to skip the first three volumes (which were covered decently in the anime) and start with volume 4 (the start of the Kyoto arc). As Charred Knight pointed out, the Xebec version gutted a lot out of the anime version of the Kyoto arc (especially the one thing that really got me into the story, Nodoka's Pactio).

I would like to say i have to highly disagree with you. Since I saw only 4-7 chapters that were even barely closely related to the anime in this manga.

It'd do yourself a favor and retcon your memory by still re-reading the manga, just because the manga had much more going towards it in terms of story and character development that the anime left out, even where and especially where the anime covered the manga...

I guess the best thing to say that overall even if it appeared in the anime, just read the manga from the beginning because you shall not be disappointed trust me.

From looking at the new spoiler images, did Rakan go mad or something? He was laughing maniacally it looks like.

Looks like Rakan was actually serious here and dominated Negi back. In accordance to Shonen rules, this only means Negi will reveal a third trump card and they'd have one last showdown.

So that's how Rakan looks when he's serious. Man he's scary.

And I bet that Negi has third trump card (if he don't he already lost) but I dont think its just another pactio card. It would seriously be like spiting in Rakan face if he got defeated using cheap tricks like that. I think it will be something not even hinted at perhaps Negi's own custom made spell designed specifically to beat Rakan. It would e a nice shot out to what Rakan said earlier that It's impossible for Negi to defeat someone on his level using self made skill.

But frankly i think that Fate will attack either during the match or just after it ends. And I hope it will happen because the Asuna rescue arc is what we are waiting for.

There are only two people between Negi and Kotaro and Kagetarou is seemingly out of the count, so that only leaves two possible answers to the question: Who the hell used Phoenix Down on the boss Rakan?

Unless of course Rakan can use Regen...

Doesn't the text say both members of Team Rakan are up?

No I think Kagetarou woke up because you can see on page 14-15 just when Rakan attacks, you can see Kagetarou´s attack as well, but thats all there is to see.

Yes, the announcer explicitly states that both are up, and you can see the other guy's surprise attack in one panel. It's really unfair. Rakan is believable (and we were all expecting it), but that other guy getting up just when Rakan did--all so Negi can have some alone time with Rakan--is annoying.

The alternative would have been Kotarou getting stomped in order to give Negi some time alone with Rakan. I kinda like this better.

Though why we can't just have the two of them get beaten together is a mystery to me.

Hey, now, don't dismiss Kotarou so quickly. He might have done a little bit of good teaming up with Negi against Rakan. A little bit.
