I was expecting that scene with Ranka based on Macross Zero, but Sheryl completely caught me off guard. So much for trying to predict things from the spoilers.

As for that kiss with Ranka, it's either they really followed the script of Macross Zero or Alto was genuinely shocked. Argh! Gotta see the subs!

For those who wonder about why Sheryl did it :

Alto was telling her that he wondered whether or not Ranka was going to play Mao, because of the kiss thing. When Sheryl asked him if it bothered him to have to kiss her, he tried to make a point saying "Err, no. You see, a mere kiss is..."

Sheryl litteraly jumped on the occasion and kissed him. She then started teasing him saying "Oh come on, a mere kiss", but it was crystal clear she at least as embarassed as him, not to say more.

Incidentally, Ranka saw them and that's pretty much what made her take the role, realizing she knew exactly how Mao felt about Shin and Sara.

CaptGloval > I'd say it was just the script, since what we saw was the actual footage shown to the public. Plus, I don't see Alto going "WTF" over that kiss. Unlike Sheryl's, it was in the script ^^'

And and BTW, I found what they said in the preview for 11 quitee interesting : "As Ranka rises into stardom, the distance between her and Alto grows".
However, from the pictures, it looks like we have a reverse Minmay on our hands : it's Ranka who seems desperate for Alto.

As for Sheryl,

I was hoping her kiss with Alto was like Shin and Sara's. That kiss was the natural conclusion of that great scene towards the end of episode 4 of Zero:

Given the revelation at the start of this episode, Shin's words have great emotional impact. Yeah, I'm a sucker for romance, so shoot me!

Oh well, it's just as good since Shin and Sara's kiss definitely belonged only to them.

Very interesting spoilers we have here cant wait to see the episode. From the looks of how things are going one of my predictions seems to be on track and as Kikuchi stated the reverse Minmay phenomenon. In a way its like Ranka and Sheryl's roles will be reversed as Ranka becomes more famous the distance between her and Alto grows in contrast we have Sheryl who is already a star wishing she was sometimes a normal girl meeting someone who doesnt care that shes a star was the plus "Yes Alto im talking about you" and i can only assume that Alto and Sheryl's screen time together will increase as they get closer.

As much as i love Ranka in the end im pulling for Sheryl on this one i just love her to death.

So according to that Yahoo Japan link, it says Macross Frontier is gonna be over on October 17, how many episodes does that put the series (season?) at?

So either it got extended 3 episodes (another dvd volumes worth) or we're going to get 3 weeks of no Macross in addition to next weeks break... Olympics?

Actually, she did seem jealous at the beginning of the episode when Alto was talking to Ranka on the phone. It could have just been because he was delaying the shoot a little, but it seemed like jealousy to me.

Also a new revelation about whether Mao survived the destruction of Earth, Ozma says, "To think that you would end up playing the role of Doctor Mao," when he is looking at the movie flier.

In a setup like this, you'd usually have the anticipated kiss be the source of much angst, only to have it not take place in the end. So it was great to see them not only follow through with the one, but to throw in another one as a complete surprise. I think there's something really positive for all the viewers in this episode; which is nice, since it's a long wait until the next one.

Sheryl definitely carried herself very well here, which takes a lot of worries off my mind. She's definitely shaping up into a delightful character.

I really liked seeing that moment of vulnerability between Sheryl and Alto after they kissed. Although I should point out that if Sheryl keeps running away in embarrassment whenever she kisses Alto, things are probably going to progress pretty slowly between those two.

Oh, and Sheryl sidestepping Miranda to talk to Ranka was entertaining to see.

You'd probably be irritated too if you were left stuck and dangling in midair in an Ex-Gear. Not to forget the fact that when work is concerned, Sheryl takes things very seriously.

Besides, I doubt that Sheryl knows what Alto is even doing, since he's quite far away when he has is conversation. She's just telling him to hurry up. If anything, the interactions in this episode gave me the impression that Sheryl is every bit as fond of Ranka as ever.

He saved Ranka from their large animal (though she fainted and forgot about him and only Alto saw the guy - and wow, he managed to say something and speak his own name). Brera seems half-Terminator (part, perhaps most of his body is cybernetic).
