At this point I won't be surprise if they have started planning for not just Index III, but another original movie as well.
comparing to another anime movie, is that good?

Its roughly in the same league as Madoka and Haruhi.

Even rivaling shounen movies like Ao no Exorcist, which sold 500 million I believe

After 4 weeks, the Blue Exorcist movie had earned 488 million yen. Index took nearly 3 months to earn the same amount. Simultaneously, Disappearance had earned 700 million yen at the end of 3 months. Madoka is a good comparison, but you're comparing recap movies to an original story. Basically Index has done well, but you can't say it's rivaling either of the other two films.

I was way off with Haruhi, but I thought Ao no Exorcist earned 500 million total?

In any case, which movie would you say other than Madoka would be a good comparison?

A Certain Magical Index Film Tops 490 Million Yen
Good news I was scared that people would be put off by JC staff and that people would not watch it.. then again, Index is really popular in Japan >.>

Tiger and Bunny would be a good comparison (though again, another recap of a popular franchise). Not saying it's done poorly (take a look at other late night anime movies), but your comparisons were posted without a full understanding of the data. Steins;Gate impresses me more than Index as it got nearly the same amount of money with fewer theatres overall for example.

I was just thinking- The Movie takes place between the 15th and 19th of September (Remnant and Daihaisensai) , so for maximum authenticity, delay watching it for two more week

Well the english version isn't out yet anyways (is it?) so it might actually work out with that timing.

No, the last thing you want is an even shorter adaptation of the story.
