This was a good episode with lots of drama as our friends from Iwatobi are struggling with the coming separation around them, and nobody is more lost that Haru.
Haru actually seems to be falling apart at the seams. He no longer swims freestyle and he only swims relay now, but even in that, he's not doing so well. It's getting so bad that pretty much everybody has noticed it, and it worried about him. However Haru seems to be in an emotional denial since his breakdown in episode 9. He's rejected everyone who's trying to help him, and that has now begun to translate to his best friends as well. Rei and Nagisa tell him that he should continue to swim and eventually swim for the world. All of them basically tell him that his talent shouldn't go to waste. Sousuke makes a more selfish and blunt statement in that while he still doesn't care for Haru, he's worried that Rin won't make it to the international stage if Haru doesn't go forward. We saw from last season that Rin can fall apart if he doesn't have motivation and support as he pursues his dream. Sousuke knows that Haru is that source of motivation and that the two constantly inspire each other to go forward and grow. So out of concern for Rin, Sousuke tells Haru to move forward towards the future. Makoto is the final straw, he tries again and again to talk to him, and finally, he just has to get physical. He lays everything out there for him, he tells Haru that all of his friends are worried about him and that he's actually hurting them by being so distant. They want him to find a goal and a dream and not be completely aimless. Haru gets completely defensive and fires back at him to stop being a mother hen and mind his own business. He yells at him, asking what plans Makoto has, but the older boy suprises him by telling him that he plans to leave and go to a university in Tokyo and that he actually decided quite a while ago. Every one is moving on it seems and Haru can't seem to face change and so he's floundering and doesn't know how to escape this state of indecision. He can't find a goal or dream for himself and is angry that Makoto and Rin seem to have it so easy. And so, after hearing the truth from Mako, he again, runs away. Rin surprisingly, is the only one who decides not to bother talking to Haru, the two don't even see each other the entire episode until the after credits scene, where Rin again takes the direct and blunt approach and basically decides for Haru. He's going to take him to Australia for the summer break and show him what he's been missing. A great episode, and I can't wait to see what the two do in Australia. Rin just comes out with that right out of the blue, and I crack up at his unabashed audacity. It's pretty much all but decided that Haru will go pro, but he just has to realize that for himself.

Another good episode in Feels!, Haru dealing with the future is something I can understand because last year I suffered the same thing and it's hard because I felt how all my friends had an idea of what they were going to study and that they were letting me behind, now I'm in college, but I still wonder if this is the right thing for me.
Back on topic ^^' this was a relly good episode and hopefully Haru will find a dream to follow.

You know, I just thought about it. What if Rin's figured out that the reason that Haru doesn't really swim competitively is really because there's no challenge for him? He's pretty much the best freestyle swimmer in Japan. He only becomes more passionate when he's going against Rin, and he and Rin are basically equals, while nobody else even comes close.
Perhaps Rin is taking Haru to Australia to find a challenge just like he did? Rin fell apart because of the challenge of much more powerful swimmers during his training there as a youth, because he was younger, less mature, and didn't have any support of friends or family around him. I think if he had had that, he would have become a much better swimmer and much more motivated. He probably wants Haru to feel that too. To be in an area where he's NOT the best swimmer, and to have a goal to go for, to actually have to try his very best. I think that might give Haru a different look at what it means to do professional swimming.

Wow...Haru has gotten a lot of surprisingly good development this season. The Water Waifu getting pissed at EVERYONE? Holy shit.
That was rather random though: 'We're going to Austrailia.' Maybe Rin is the one who saves Haru this round, like Haru saved him last season.

In a way though, it'll be sad in Rin saves him. Sad only because his own team couldn't. The same could be said about Rin last season. It shows how the two need each other though. |

Because despite how close Haru is with the rest of the Iwatobi team, none of them are really on his level. Makoto talked about that a few episodes ago when he was explaining his jealousy of Rin, and Sousuke talked about it these last two episodes when he explained that while he wanted to be Rin's rival, Haru has become's Rin's rival and has been able to reach him where Sousuke could not. So, actually it's not so surprising that Rin is the one that can reach Haru best of all his 5 friends.

Holy shit, that is some awesome English there spoken this episode. Well, it was more like a build up towards the finale but I liked it. Next week's the finale...
Now I want to eat some Soba and go to Australia.

Wow, I'm sooo happy for Haru.
Well, this episode was a nice look at the two in Australia and some really nice interaction with Rin and Haru. Haru's been off kilter lately and he really needed some intervention. All his friends tried to help, but it just wasn't working. However, interestingly enough, his fear of going pro, was not so much the professional swimming itself, but the fact that it would take him out of his comfort zone and out of the only place and position he ever knew. However, Rin did a good job of taking Haru to a new world, showing him that it's not so bad, and that there is a life out there that he could live. It was nice seeing more of Rin's life there as a kid and his homestay parents were nice. First Zankyou no Terror and now this! We actually get some real English-speakers for once! Somebody on staff had the brains to hire some actual Aussies to do voices [EDIT:Or were they Aussie Americans? Or just Californians? ]. Though Rin's Engrish wasn't too bad either, and seeing Haru so confused was cute, especially when he thought Rin had left him. And that scene at the pool, the final realization that his fears were for naught and that he can be free here, Haru crying at the fact that he's finally found a dream for himself and now he can take off like a hawk was really awesome. Rin also announces that he's going to stay in Australia after graduation was unexpected but great for him. The two birds flying together was a great symbolism about Haru finally joining Rin on their journey to become great swimmers. Haru finally wanting to move forward. Even though our boys are separating, they are following their dreams, and they will always be friends. It's all part of growing up.
