(L) Vivid Red Operation

This anime never fails to make me double over in laughter, and so effortlessly too. I'd imagine the writers were also in stitches as they reviewed the script in the production process. Who cares about the plot, the themes and feelings of the show that they tried to get across was conveyed well, and I felt warm and fuzzy watching every episode. Homerun.

Only sad thing is the art got really bad at times, particular episode 9 and 11. Thank goodness this final episode was mostly great. Really liked Vividred's designs, but was a little disappointed that a Vividblack didn't appear since it was fully possible.

Onto more serious matters, now that this show is over, I think its safe to declare anime as officially dead.

I'm pretty sure that at least some in the production crew wanted to explore the concept of cosmic horror/tragedy (ala Madoka Magica), but in the end their decision was "scratch this, we're making a light and happy anime with lots of ass shots".

Ultimately, we don't know what Homerun's planet is like and what are the rationale of the cosmic gods. Also, Homerun didn't say "I must go, my planet needs me." Too bad!

When was it anything else? The Vivid system is just a fancy mechanization of the Power of Friendship trope. Did you expect much else from the finale?

Err...wow.

It was pretty and stuff, but I didn't really like it.

I've complained about Pretty Cure and how each literation is and how I don't feel like committing to that many episodes, but after seeing Vividred, I can see why it has to be that many episodes.

So many combination possibilities, powersups, but since it had to do everything in 12 episodes, nothing happens.

Even the overall plot was thin and predictable as hell. Nameless crow entity, nameless alone entity, nameless unknown infinity sign entity...

I probably keep an episode or two to rewatch the transformation scenes, but that's it.

The story is.... okay actually. It didn't seem like a vast world of interlocking side stories, it was basically this girl and the friends she made, and the danger she was caught up in. It was okay how it went in regards to that, but there were some moments where I craved details such as how the girls docked ahem I mean why it seems like only the Isshiki family seems to be the only ones with anti-gravity technology , where's Himawari's mommy, or Wakaba's mama Cough ahem my cosmos aside, I wanted to see what Rei-chan's world was like....she looked so happy, damnit I had tears in my eyes when I saw her so happy, why you do this to me Vivid Projekt? You know I can't cry, it frickin hurts Throughout most of the series that girl was grim faced, now she's so happy, it makes me happy hey wait, why are you giving your scarf to Akane? Give me a souvenir! Preferably your pantsu AAAAH *mangatron is naked collided*

That was a fitting end to a series that, honestly, I never saw it as dark gritty material from the start, rather for its lightheartedness, I found the entire series a fun watch, and time well spent, especially since that time is not so easy for me to spend these days. Of course there were... "some" things I would prefer to see more of, but that's just me

It would seem this season, the recurring theme is "friendship", and this series takes it up a notch by having the girls dock with the harem lead How many of you remember that the whole idea of docking is because this Grandpa docks with his grand daughter every morning? Why do I have to go to jail?!?

There was some really nice music, I have to say that the docking sequences were made more dramatic thanks in part to its accompanying soundtracks, as well as when the 3 girls docked and fought for the first time, those fights wouldn't have been the way they ended up if it weren't for that great music

And then there's the girls.... which I'd like to spew a whole bunch of gibberish here but that would be further evidence to incriminate me I especially like the job Himawari's voice actress did for her, she really made it convincing to me that Himawari was that low stamina, always short on breath girl who needs a break sometimes and of course, I'll cherish Akane's "eheehee" for a long as I can (she even got to do her doggy song at the end there )

In the end, I give this series a.......11 of 10! Wait, I think my math is wrong...

PROS
-I like the girls.... in a few years, ja. I can't like them now, I'd be thrown in jail
-For me it's always a good thing when a character leaves an impression, and Akane's laugh ALWAYS brought a smile to my face
-Rei-chan took so much showers, I am proud to award her the Most Cleanest Girl award for Winter 2013 whether it was infiltrating a secure facility, or about to perform her last action, she always had a time for a shower
-I like the butts....hey, it was an accident okay? I tripped, she sat on me, ain't no crime in accidents
-I like that the ponytail girl was green all the way. They're a rare species indeed...
-I need a steady dose of transforming, weaponized girls. I actually got 2 series for Winter 2013, and this one really dolled up the girls
-And when they transform, they turn into legal beautiful girl
-There's no yuri in this series folks, they were only checking each others' temperatures via their foreheads, okay?
-I'M REI-CHAN'S FIRST FRIEND YYEEEAH *runs*

CONS
-Military was practically useless this series. Like... every other anime out there that isn't mechs

Drumroll please... I give this series an.... 8/10! If you like seeing science twisted to the point of incomprehension, and if you don't mind a lot of tear jerking cheese, I recommend this series

well this series was pretty bad...the story was lame just girls fighting a monster that appears in every episode, the characters were plain too just girls being friends, i want to label this series as just a fanservice anime but even that was plain considering its made by the same guys as strike witches.

I had high hopes for this after the 1st ep but it just dragged on with nothing interesting happening throughout the whole series, they should of just done strike witches s3 instead of this crap

and my final rant about the last ep, why were they just standing there watching the military trying to fight that monster by themselves for the 1st half of the ep.....really just plain stupid

3/10 for the whole series, this could of been a great anime but it seems they just made a simple anime by throwing in hyper girls/friendship/minimal plot/a tad of fanservice and mixing it together

the crow has has gone mad with power going like kaboom all worlds with look everyone is screwed but wait rei is still alive inside the crow beast.

with look like game over but akane & vivid rangers not so fast cause get rei & save the world cause now crow is going blackout the world.

so vivid combine overload from yellow blast attack, sword green slash, & blue hammer time combos for akane get rei & to reveal docking with akane & rei to vivid red with all that fly to space for a let’s see you grit those teeth punch to defeat the crow.

all saved & oh good news that another alone being decide give rei her world back now give some bye & rei give akane her neck scarf with we will meet again cue rei go home.

time has past from everything normal akane’s grandpa back in human body, akane’s mom come home, etc til akane see a bird & rei indeed the end.

You know what's disappointing... She didn't become a magical girl and perform docking to her sister. Heck, I didn't see Momo-chan fight!

Predictable ending is predictable. The crow was just a power-hungry entity, defeated by the power of friendship. I hoped to see Rei in a black Palette Suite, instead they just docked like that. Oh well, who cares about the plot?

This show was just a cheesecake without any pretense of being deep. It lost any scientific believability when Dr. Isshiki became a stuffed animal. I don't regret watching it but I will probably forget all about it in a couple of months

At least the girls were incredibly hot, especially their Vivid forms, so kudos to the designers on that aspect.

There are many joke responses I could make, but seriously, it was a "push in the right direction". Their passing condition for the test was to overcome their distrust and become friends, which would be extremely difficult if the girls had no opportunity to meet each other except on the battlefield. So the all-knowing entity arranged for them to meet at school and give them a chance to see each other in a different light.

In this sense, Rei going to school is actually a huge plot point xD.

A fitting end to the series. Full of friendship, pseudo-yuri, happy feelings and rainbows. And a whole lot of cheese. The final fight was as over the top as I had hoped it would be. Why is Vividred so freaking overpowered anyway? Is it because it's the result of two girls from different world fusing or is Rei and Akane's friendship the strongest ever, in which case Aoi got NTR'd hard? We'll probably never know.

That was an enjoyable but ultimately very forgettable series. The most memorable part was probably the butts.
