Handa-kun [anticipation]

Handa-kun is getting a TV anime adaptation. (the prequel of Barakamon)

Plot Summary:
Quote:
In Handa-kun, Seishuu Handa is admired by his peers as a calligraphy genius and given the utmost respect, but Handa-kun himself is under the mistaken impression that the deference and attention he receives from the other students is actually bullying. Handa just wants to live a quiet life, but hilarity ensues as one character after another challenges his position as the school idol, and somehow comes away as a fan all while Handa is horrified and clueless.

That was probably inevitable, given what a hit the manga was right out of the gate. Hopefully this time around the anime is a little more faithful to the spirit of the manga than Barakamon was.

Prequel to Barakamon? Considering I couldn't get to Barakamon, I seriously doubt I'd get into this either.

This announcement pleases me greatly. I love the Handa-kun manga as much as I do Barakamon. Handa-kun (manga) has a slightly different feel to it than Barakamon does due to the difference in Handa's age and the different settings. So don't go into Handa-kun (anime) expecting a rehash of Barakamon. However, if you didn't like Barakamon at all, I'm not sure that Handa-kun will be different enough to pull you in.

I actually enjoyed Barakamon more than I would expect, here's hoping this would be more of the same (also brings Kinema Citrus back please).

I loved Barakamon, but I don't know if I will like this as well since some of the things I loved the most in the series were the girls, and here we will have none of them

Even so, I will give it a chance, since I loved the original show

Despite the slightly different feeling I actually think people will find it easier to like Handa-kun than Barakamon, this def will appeal to romance shippers more than Barakamon could.

GIMME THIS NAO!

I have all of the manga so far and while I love Barakamon, HK is actually a little more focused on comedy.

Handa is bae, adult or messed up tsundere kid.

I swear, this series, Haikyuu 3, the Binan sequel and the upcoming Token Ranbu series are like the only things I seriously can't wait to watch this year...

Couldn't get into Barakamon either, but the premise of Handa-kun sounds like a manga I read long ago about a guy with a really scary face. It was really funny how people were completely terrified of him while he was totally oblivious to their reactions. If this is like that, it should be good for a watch.

I think that was a trend some time ago, because I remember watching Toradora and then an enormous number of clones of the MC

Off-topic, but I found the manga (Angel Densetsu) and it predates Toradora by at least 14 years. Plus I doubt it's the first comedy manga to use the "Nice guy protagonist with scary face" idea either.

Back on topic, I'll give Handa-kun a try because it sounds like something that would be very funny if they did it right.

Yes, I don't think Toradora was the first either, it was just one of the first I remember

Anyway, I wouldn't label Handa as a scary guy He is just... how to say it... socially weird?
