If someone asks me which version or part of HxH I like more. I can tell them and why and if they agree or not is fine with me.

For the record, more often than not I like the artwork and animation(different things btw which people always mix up) of the remake more because it is clean and consistent. I can always tell what is going on whether it is brightly lit or a dark environment. That's something I can't say for the old series.

I'd honestly rather bring in new people to appreciate the story rather than convince 2 or 3 people who are pretty grounded in their opinions already. As the hundreds of comments on Crunchyroll for episode 52 show, the reception to the fight has been more positive while this thread, which is made up of more hardcore fans, is more often than not negative.

Both show Kura with a different style of hitting the bald dude, which I ain't complaining much, still personal favorite is the 1999 version of him punching him away. It reminds me of DBZ. lol

A quick note: Kurapika's line to Zenji in the 1999 series is different from the manga/2011 series.

Kurapika (1999): "Stop. Don't bother me as I am right now."
Kurapika (manga/2011): "Stop. I'm ready to lash out against the first person I see...and it might as well be you."

The 1999 series had many little line changes like this, for some bizarre reason. Another example, from the top of my head, is during the arm wrestling scene between Gon and Nobunaga. When Killua interjects into their conversation, Nobunaga in the manga and 2011 series threatens to kill the boy if he speaks again. In the 1999 series, Nobunaga's line is changed to "hurt" from "kill."

You sure its not a translating error or a similar meaning? (regarding Nobunaga line)

The kurapika line did not matter and I like the change, because he does not need much dialogue to show how craze he is.

100%. Actually, the 1999 series censored direct references to death (in language) quite frequently.

As for Kurapika's line, it may not have mattered to you...but it did to me. Take that as you will. It's also worth mentioning that in the manga, Kurapika punches Zenji because the latter implies that the former is Nostrade's prostitute. A line about "sucking off your limp master" is changed to "lick your master's boots" in the anime.

Kurapika's line was not much when translated into English, so it's easy to not be bothered by the change, but in Japanese, it sounded so absolutely awesome, I would have missed a lot if I didn't get to hear it.

As far as I'm concerned, the OVAs were a definite step up from the original series in terms of image quality. There's not much to be said for Kurapica's characterization since the OVAs scenes match the manga more accurately, which is my prime criteria for judging a series.

We will see as time goes on if Saga decided to stick to the manga characterizations or forced himself to adapt Furuhashi's "image" for the sake of continuity.

Thank you so much Shinobi for always doing these comparisons. I always look forward to them.

I kinda wish the Phantom Rouge movie were more about what was really supposed to happen with the Troupe if they weren't able to avoid the prophecy. Like, I would love to see how Shizuku, Shalnark and Pakunoda would die under the circumstances that they were supposed to be in.

Given the height of her popularity around the time of the release of that chapter and that mole on her face, that's probably her. Probably just Togashi being a fan.

Togashi also mentioned another Japanese female alternative rocker called Jun Togawa (she started in the 80s, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jun_Togawa) in YYH before. The character Itsuki mentioned about looking forward to buy her new album...such remark stunned the then-Spirit detective Sensui and ended up not killing Itsuki. Here's the connection: Sheena Ringo was always criticized for ripping off Jun Togawa (both have wild singing voice, unhinged persona, playing with parody of 'Showa period" Japanese iconography/music with a scandalous twist, and of course the most obvious one is dressing up as a nurse). So you can kinda see where Togashi's type lies. Oh yeah Jun Togawa's debut album was Insect theme too (Insect Woman....inspiration?).

Nippon went to the cheap way and took a photo of a castle Filler The scene of the guests reminding themselves of their prophecies got extended in Madhouse's adaption. This scene was omitted from Nippon's. One of the Dons The fly scene Illumi The Zoldyck transmitter. It was not mentioned that it's used only after a successful assassination. The anime changed it a bit by making it put directly on the ear instead of using a headphone. The destruction The rest of the dons The Great-Grandfather Maha Zoldyck's cameo got omitted from Madhouse's adaptation and we only see Illumi and Kalluto. He did show up in Nippon's adaptation but we didn't get a clear shot of him nor a close-up like Kalluto. In Madhouse's adaptation Chrollo asks the Zoldycks if they knew that he hired Illumi or not. Silva "What a night!" The Troupe members were not present after the battle in the manga. Kortopi talks here for the first time and he got a male voice. Bean's assassination This side comment is filler Gallery Fake: Divine Right Hand, Demonic Left Hand Kurapika's punch. It was a tad exaggerated in Nippon's adaptation and didn't give us Kurapika's inner monologue of not believing the news. -- Spoiler for Part 2: The dead bodies. Chrollo's bodies was missing the left arm in the manga and Nippon's adaption. We also see Chrollo's tattoo on his upper right arm which is not confirmed in the manga yet. Kurapika looked like in she was in a shock when she saw the eyes on display. There's a goof in Madhouse's adaptation. Kurapika still have his chains on his hands. How did the Phantom Troupe not notice it? In the manga and Nippon's adaptation he did not have them. Receiving the eyes was omitted from Nippon's adaptation. This is manga only Kurapika's wrath Party? In the manga, Leoreo mentions that he started drinking when he was 12. A reminder of Zepile's trick Instead of the party in Nippon's adaptation, the trio go and search for Kurapika and afterwards she handles the eyes to Senritsu and go off on her own. The silance and the atmosphere are strong here. Hisoka's phone had a silly cartoon in the manga The other party and with that ends the final episode of Nippon's TV adaptation. (There are still some scene left that are going to show up in the next episode of Madhouse's adaptation) The episode didn't have any action, but it had some strong atmosphere and emotional scenes: Fear, desperation, losing hope, and the false sense of security. Nippon's adaptation in my opinion did two things better: The inclusion of Maha even though we don't see him do anything, and the other is Kurapika's wrath with him carrying the "fake" eyes of his relative. SHINOBI-03 Senior Member Join Date: May 2012	*-EPISODE 54-* Spoiler for Part 1: Manga: Chapter 102, 103, 104, 105, first part of chapter 106 Nippon's Adaptation: What's left of episode 64, OVA 1 episode 1 As of this episode we will go into the first OVA series. And unlike the TV series, the OVAs are NOT directed by Furuhashi (Thank you Lord!! ) but by three other directors for each series. The first OVA series was directed by Satoshi Saga. Did he do a better jobr? We'll see... Also I should note that the OVAs were not licensed which means they don't have an official translation and what we have are fansubs and therefore not 100% guarantee to be accurate, and it also means I'm going to suffer from things like these: Plus, the image quality (Top) is not as clear as the raw files (bottom) -- The public reaction to the news of the "death" of the Troupe is manga only Gon's message to Kurapika was omitted from Madhouse's adaptation. The search agency and the revelation of Meteor City from chapter 102 got omitted in both anime adaptations. Some say the reason for that is because Togashi based the main guy on a real figure and copied his poses from actual photos of him panel by panel and they say the studio did not have the rights to use his image for the anime. Well, since what's mentioned here is going to be repeated again it's not that big of a loss. Madhouse's adaptation starts the episode with scenes of Meteor City and Chrollo's flashback based on a page from the manga. The OVA started in a similar manner and showed the flashback a later time. Chrollo waking up after the party is filler. Nippon's adaptation did a similar moment as well. The reuniting at the park. In Nippon's adaptation.......... This is Furuhashi's final episode... THIS IS FURUHASHI'S FINAL EPISODE...!!! Following that scene, the episode plays the opening song along with a montage of the previous events from the series. The opening theme for the OVA got a similar style to the second TV opening and the performance is also similar. The auction scene got skipped over in Madhouse's adaptation and went to the argument between Leoreo and Zepile. Zepile's final thoughts were not shown either. Nippon's adaptation skipped this whole thing entirely. Panel 1: - "Wouldn't want to spoil the fun." - "I'll get to see plenty more if I stick with those two." Panel 2: - "The experience would be priceless." - "You know that, don't you?" The team is complete once again. Nippon's adaptation skipped the meeting at the hotel and went straight to the discussion about vows and limitations. The way they did it makes the first time viewer thinks that they missed a scene in-between the two episodes. Kurapika The nen blade was shown only in Madhouse's adaptation Hisoka -- Spoiler for Part 2: Chrollo's Angelic Auto Writing. Nippon's adaptation omitted the scene when Chrollo asked Nobunaga for his information and mentions the required ones later Nobunaga's prophecy Shizuku's prophecy. Nippon's adaptation completely omitted it Analyzing the months and a hint to the members' numbers. In Madhouse's adaptation, Hisoka is the one who suggests to write the prophecies to all members. In the manga, there was a brief comical moment when Feitan says he doesn't know his birthday and Phinks doesn't know his blood type, and Chrollo makes a funny face that I really wanted to see in the anime but it never happened! Hisoka's message. I really liked the silence when the lighting struck. The manga mentions Kastro for a brief moment but neither adaptations mention him - Kurapika: "One of them has the ability to make fake copies." - Killua: "Like the guy at Heavens Arena!!" - Gon: "Kastro!! He created his double!" The other Revelation of Meteor City. Madhouse used part from the first time to add to Leoreo's explanation. But what they did not mention is the incident when one of the residents was arrested and accused for a murder that he did not commit without any proof and how the residents took their revenge by killing every last one involved with the arrest after they released him of custody three years later. Hisoka's prophesy Hisoka's glare In Nippon's adaptation we see the writing changes from Hisoka's paper. The next episode will explain it. In Nippon's adaptation as well Hisoka pulls a Joker card with a similar design to how he was depicted in the title page of chapter 53 from the manga Fake prophecy The episode was an exposition episode. In preparation for what's coming. Secrets are revealed one after another. Yeah, they skipped a scene, but what's the point of wasting time with a nameless character that just reveals info that are going to be repeated again? Nippon went to a new stage and let's hope that Saga is a better director than @$%ing Furuhashi! 7.8/10

The sword did not appear in Nippon's adaptation Hisoka's erection boner "excitement" again... Madhouse's adaptation did not tell us the specifics of manipulation that Shalnark mentions. Nippon's adaptation didn't show the debate on conjuration and manipulation during this episode, but moved it to the next one, but without telling everything Panel 1: - "A manipulator can only exert his power through people or objects, so he can never be without his weapon of choice." - "The object would need to be something he's used for years, or it won't be as effective." - "Losing the preferred weapon is often fatal." Panel 2: - "Oh, yeah. Conjurers have to do lots of image training..." - "... but once they've learned that, they can make their weapon appear at will." The explanation of Hisoka's trick in the manga was done by the narrator. In Madhouse's adaptation it was in Hisoka's thoughts, but what wasn't mentioned was Hisoka's awareness of Pakunoda's first ability, but not the second, and Machi being the only one who knows about his Texture Surprise ability but she doesn't know its full capacity. Of course this wasn't clear in Nippon's adaptation because it omitted Texture Surprise since day 1 and it was never named or brought up. Plus, this scene was omitted from the ova. The analysis of the rest of Hisoka's prophesy is filler And as usual, no Miluki Neon's scene is filler BTW, is there any idea who is this? -- Spoiler for Part 2: Madhouse didn't show us this face Kurapika's face was creepier in the manga Nippon's adaptation omitted this joke Killua's question to Kurapika was omitted from Nippon's adaptation Nippon's adaptation shows us the hook instead of the finger, while Madhouse shows us the effect it had on Uvogin The dagger looks too big in Nippon's adaptation Some notes on Kurapika's ability were not mentioned in Madhouse's adaptation Panel 1: - "This condition was necessary..." - "... because I'm a conjurer." - "Using the dagger and forcing rules on others are manipulative and emissive abilities." Panel 2: - "I cannot use them under normal circumstances." - "Once the conjured chain leaves my hand, it would become too weak to be useful." Panel 3: - "Staking my life and limiting the range of the attacks..." - "... were strong enough conditions for chain jail." The manga showed Hisoka's along with them. This scene was omitted from Nippon's adaptation. In the manga, Phinks joked that his team that have Feitan and Kortopi is the "Non Data Team". "Just a hunch" Kortopi speaks for the first time here in Nippon's adaptation, and he's voiced by a female -- An okay episode. The only problems with it are the missing information about Hisoka's knowledge and Kurapika's abilities. Nippon's adaptation didn't go without missing scenes as well, but the ones they omitted were more important. 8/10
