It'd be boring. As SFG said, bringing out the dead isn't pretty original. Rather, I want to see the dead bodies back to Japan and Hina learning the truth.

But it kinda felt like end of the series, with the involvement of all side characters and acceptance of other relatives. I won't be surprised if the anime choose this chapter for the last episode

So from vol 2 onward they will live on the Takanashi house on Ikebukuro again, and free from most of their problem, especially financial one? I honestly thought they will stay on Yuuta's dorm room and have to face their problems for longer time, maybe since I've watched the anime and read the mangas first (which the main manga and almost all of the spin-offs made me think like that ^^a).

By the way, just curious, by the end of vol 8 (since I'm assuming no one her has read vol 9 yet ^^), is there any statement/explanation how much time has passed since Yuri and Shingo gone MIA?

Basically, if I do a comparison of anime and mangas I know, it's like a Ro-Kyu-Bu setting with emphasis on how the protagonist manages to live with the three girls.

Volume 1 is about being responsible of the three girls.
Volume 2 is mostly about a classmate of Sora and a high school girl neighbor suspicious of the MC. Involves Sora a lot.
Volume 3 is pretty random, well, it has the 7-5-3 or something like that, and Christmas.
Volume 4 is Miu-centered, and her mother.
Volume 5 is Hina-centered, and contains a small, tiny bit of Raika's "jealousy". Hard to say for the latter though.

I bet that it'd be about April at the end of V9, since a Christmas and a Valentine's day passed. Unless it's like Conan,where there's like 5 Christmas and 4 Valentine's day and the MC stiill in 1st grade.

BTW, I do not particularily agree on Larethian for the V1>V2 climax, but well, you guys will see that.

Kira, it's good to share 'why' from your perspective at least.

(Incidentally, I've told Zephyrus and Freedom before starting the project that my collab is only for v1, so it's up to them for the rest of the series unless the series deals me another great blow; my favorite project right now is Mahouka, which takes me about 5 times as much time to translate the same amount of words.)

I think it's not just the climax, but on the whole, volume 2 is kind of weak. The afterword kind of confirms my suspicion about a few things about the author's plans when he said that this is the most difficult volume he has ever written in his writing career (which implies to me that while he might have a macro plan, he wasn't quite sure how to do the micro parts to engage the readers).

Why v2 has a weaker climax and a weaker story:

Firstly, v2 is definitely less interesting, for it deals mainly with Nichijou, or daily lives, which are on the whole quite mundane, unlike v1, which was really interesting, when the characters are put in difficult situations throughout the entire volume. Honestly, I can only thank Raika, Nimura, Sako-senpai, Shiori, and Kiyomi for the comedy, or I'd have died of boredom. And I really want to smack that Daiki. Anyway I digress.

Like what the author said, the volume is Sora centric, which deals mainly with how she manages life at home and school, especially with her taking on the "fetch Hina" job, since Yuuta is right now in danger of having not enough credits to graduate in minimum time. Of course Yuuta still needs to struggle with his Baito since he needs to save up for the three children's future education. While Shiori makes a debut, she does almost nothing except for some comedy relief.

While it's fine to have Sora as the central character, like I said, the volume spends quite some parts on Nichijou, and it lacks the balance in volume 1, so the interesting situations are less compared to volume 1. The cosplay premise was nice, but unfortunately not really engaging, until the climax part. While chapter 5 is the cosplay event, it does not really help build up the climax in chapter 6 by much, except for being used as part of a premise for overworking Sora. When I say build-up, I don't mean situational/premise build-up (which is definitely executed here); what I meant was emotional build-up. While Sora's monologue about her regret about not being able to call Yuri Okaa-san was really good, it was short and had less prior build-up, as compared to v1, where an insidious subtle build-up was taking place, and man, it's a tearjerker every time I think about how kawaisou (pitiful) Hina is to have lost her Mom at the age of three and how the author used her to brilliantly dictate the actions and behavior of the other characters while keeping her 'immune' to the environment. In fact, for volume 2, like I mentioned before, the climax was the only redeeming part of the volume, since it was fighting hard to keep my interest before that chapter, but the impact was short-lived and only affects one person and consequently of a lesser value than v1 for me, which started with Yuuta realizing he screwed up in chapter 5.

Of course, this doesn't mean that future volumes will be weak (in my personal perspective only). But for now, despite having gotten v9, I won't be reading it until 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and I'm putting this on hold on my reading list due to my busy schedule and the fact that I need to read the last volume of Seitokai first.

Well, here's my point.

Volume 1 does seem more interesting. However, you needed to throw out the contents first. You see something about this, something about that, evolving around the element causing the start of the story (i.e. plane crash). However, there's no real progression. Everything kind of happens, and it is kinda rash. For example, the plane crashes, everyone goes crying, and we don't focus on that later. Yuuta decides to take the kids, and take the decision on the spot, without any psychological progression. Obviously, you could mention the past event, but it would go much smoother if he thinks about it, look at the pros and the cons, and then takes the decision. Plus, the climax is more in the second chapter to me, and the end of the volume is a happy family ending, and something like that. I have an image to what to compare it to, but it'd be too...vulgar.

Compared to that, the second volume has more planning. It was perhaps hard to write, but it doesn't mean that it's a screwed volume. What happens is that you can't put any overly-dramatic thing; you just had a plane crash in the first volume, man. So the setting is kinda different. The school life is dealt, to explain what it looks like, and it will also be based on this that the next volumes are written. Daiki and Shiori are kinda the "ennemies"/"antagonists" of Yuuta's life. Unlike volume 1, the pieces are placed as slowly as the Italian opening in chess. Conservative and such. However, the cosplay event was the second-important part, awaiting for the final climax. when Sora fell ill, things started moving quickly, and the part where Sora confronts Daiki is the "explosion", the !!, and the best part of the story. So, it is more smooth to reas than the first volume.

Personally, volume 4 is my favorite. However, I find volume 2 quite fine, and the introduction of new characters too.

Personally my issues with v2 is that

The actions of the side characters are fairly illogical, though one might said the same as to some of the details on the series, that it ends up, IMO, disrupt the pacing of the volume.

What I have question was with the Shiori part of the story. Granted, the author wanted to establish her character as jump-to-conclusion type, but no matter how dense or self-assuming she is, she should have act sooner. Same with Daiki, he is basically the same character type as Shiori which makes the volume feel a bit redundant.

Again, like Shiori, his action seem a bit too drawn out and it lessen the impact of the climax scene. Personally I think that V2 might be better served with by adding another sub-plot and condense Shiori/Daiki part to half of the volume or at least to two-third of the volume.

V2 mentioned that while there are good amount of inheritances and insurances left, considering that it need to cover the three sister until they graduates college as well as Yuuta's own college tuition, the money will still be fairly tight. And because Yuuta wanted to have the custody of the sisters, the aunt and uncle will only provide minimum support on their part. So with all that's in mind, while they don't need to worry about too much about money, they don't much wiggle room either.

As for time, I agree with KiRa08o2, even though that V7 jump back to V1 as a flashback volume, the time is moving. Miyu was mentioned to turn 11 in V4 and Yuuta was noted to have taken the finals and V8 mentioned Hina's birthday and that she is turning 4.

Bills? Remember that the old property was inherited from the father, thus they don't have to pay rent, that should really compensate some of the bills and even then most of them spend a lot of time outside the house anyway. Furthermore the girls don't have to take two trains anymore and as pointed out they do get a meager sum from the other relatives now that they accept them. Meager beats nothing.

The sad truth is that now that they live in the big house, the only one that has to sacrifice time and effort is Yuuta and now the kids have a much easier time with their normal lives; Yuuta, being the elder, the guardian and a hardworking protagonist is supposed to take the dive so that the children get better prospects and stay in better health and stuff.

BTW; I haven't been able to find spoilers about volume 9 sans the usual short preview paragraph, bleh; I'm no good .

Considering that the father seem like at least a high-middle class and close to his 40 if not in his early 40s, you would assume that the house is already paid off, if not the inheritance/insurance should cover it. The fact that they have enough inheritance/insurance money left to cover the sister's education till college suggest that the house is most likely paid off.

From what describes in V2, Yuuta basically get withdrew takes the necessity money from his aunt or girl's uncle every month while he handles the leisure/extra expenses. Like I said, they are not exactly strapped for money, but at same time they do need to manage their money pretty that Yuuta once in a while need to take temp job to cover the extra expense.

@Kira, I'm not saying it's a screwed up volume, but it was not really interesting to me, especially the first 3 or 4 chapters. Perhaps you are right that he only started planning since he just got a confirmed serialization. Anyway I've flipped through all the volume illustrations and will be looking forward to future volumes. Just tell me this, will I still feel like killing Daiki?

@Undertaker, actually, illogical and unrealistic events have been pretty glaring to me right at the start, so I've decided to ignore it (even though it can be tough at times ). Though I cannot remember whether it was the same with Mayoi Neko, or perhaps I didn't feel it since Mayoi Neko was one of the first LNs I started reading when my LN experience was low.

By the way I kinda dislike when Yuuta threw the map of Yuri and Shingo's grave to the trash bin. I know Yuuta believes that both of them are still alive hence he doesn't want to go to their grave, but I don't know, maybe it's just me but it feel rude to Shingo's brother wish whom already got soft to him and helped him. He could just put it somewhere

Well that's what I meant, at least their primary living expenses were covered by the help of the Yachiko and the relatives. Yuuta will only has to struggle when it comes to his and the girls's extra expenses. But yeah, providing three girls still a helluva heavy works for a college student like Yuuta
