well in arc 3. he pretty much loose it and even decide to run away which beats the notion that having a reviving ability as OP ability. Its useless if your sanity points is keep on going down for each death.

IF you're in his shoes... with all the things he has... do you think you hold on until your natural death? The way the story goes, he can't be killed by unnatural means. Meaning, somewhen in that timeline, you'll lose those sanity points and kill yourself a lot until you're pretty bored at it.

I don't know about treating the world as a game..
But if I'm that guy, pretty sure I would kill myself when I got a good information on how to change the past again... and again... and again... since I will treat that world as a game to keep my sanity intact.

There are just events that one can't be shrug off as a game and those events would either bring you in despair or would pushed you further over your limit.

There would also be a limit and treating ones life callously would surely made one less human.

Plus, if I remember it right. He doesn't have infinite lives or rather there is a drawback or punishment if he died far too much. The same can be said if he revealed his ability to someone. the world itself would kill that someone and everything would just "crack" and he will restart.

Emilia was skinned alive while MC is being tortured nearby? And any spoilers for what happened later...? I just missed what happened to the mc when he killed himself... AGAIN... AND AGAIN....AND AGAIN....AND AGAIN....AND AGAIN.... until he snapped out of it.

It was nice. I'm glad Subaru managed to get over bad end 4. That cliffhanger at the last part before the epilogue made me go OMG. Elza so OP. Though Reinhard even more OP.
Don't know how it can get better but I hope it gets better.

If you check many of the comments over here you'll notice that most readers share the opinion that "it gets real" four about around the end of the 3rd arc; enjoy the ride.

Still cautious because of MF. But my expectations have been set low due to isekai web novel origin.

I'm not sure where you left off, but assuming somewhere in middle of arc two.

Spoiler:

The second arc finishes with everyone alive, Subaru saved the village kids and fought off the hellhounds, won the love of Rem.

The third arc is really really long.
The ritual to choose the next King is taking place and candidates are summoned to the capital. The royal linage has been interrupted by deaths and those chosen by the dragon crest must compete to be the next King/Queen. Five candidates are chosen, and Emilia is one of them.

Because of Subaru's reckless behavior, Emilia tells him to stay put, and he promises he will. But he soon breaks that promise, sneaks into the castle, then embarrass her and himself in front of everyone by mouthing off. He picks a fight with a knight, and loses in the duel. He loses trust with everyone including Emilia, and they leave him in the capital.

Only Rem stays at his side, caring to him and displaying her unyielding love for him.
He trains under Wilhelm under Cruche's (one of the candidates) care. He learns that the mansion is in danger, and hurries out to get back to Emilia. But the road back to the mansion is hazardous due to appearance of the White Whale of Gluttony.
In his attempt to get back to the mansion he and Rem are captured by the Cult of the Witch, an evil cult who worship Satella the Witch of Envy, and schemes to bring the Witch back into the world.

Subaru and Rem are tortured, mutilated, and killed by Betelgeuse, the Bishop of Sloth.
In one of the loops Subaru finds his way back to the mansion alone, only to find the whole village slaughtered by the Cult, Ram is dead with the children, Emilia dead in the mansion and enraged Puck going out of control, freezing the entire region and instantly killing Subaru.
In another loop Subaru is driven insane from the torture he receives from Betelgeuse, who rips apart Rem in front of his eyes piece by piece.
This insanity lasts a whole loop as Rem tries to carry Subaru who has turned into a drooling madman and make back to the mansion. At the end of this loop, the two are again captured and tortured, but this manages to snap Subaru back to sanity thanks to the anger.

Subaru now determined more than ever, finally realizes he needs help to deal with this situation. He vows to be a better person, and repairs his trust with people in the capital. He eventually wins the trust of several Queen candidates, and forms an alliance with Julius, the knight he lost duel to, Wilhelm, an elderly swordsman under Cruche, and beastmen mercenaries working for Anastasia (another candidate).

The group heads out first to destroy the White Whale who is blocking the passage to the mansion. Wilhelm has a beef with the said Whale, for losing his wife many years ago.
The battle is very fierce and those who were eaten by the whale are "erased" from the world. History, memory of them, everything. No one, not even family, remembers them from ever existing. But the group finally downs the whale.

Subaru's save point is moved. Whale was an objective, it seems.
Now Subaru heads the allies to face Betelgeuse and the Cult of the Witch.
They lose several times, and everyone killed, but each time Subaru learns more about the Bishop and plans his tactics. The insane Bishop has the power to manifest invisible "Hands of God" that can kill anyone without them ever seeing them.
After many bloody battles, Subaru and his allies is victorious and Betelgeuse is killed.

Subaru wins back the trust of Emilia, but learns a shocking truth... she doesn't remember who Rem is.
He rushes to go see Rem, to find her comatose and no one remembering her.
Rem and Cruche has been attacked by Bishop of Gluttony. Rem was eaten and "erased" from the world, whereas Cruche's own memory was lost (others remember her fine).
Not even Ram, Rem's own sister, remembers who she is.

Due to becoming romantically involved with Rem, Subaru despairs and commits suicide.
But when he wakes up, he realizes the "save point" had moved forward after defeating Betelgeuse, the Bishop of Sloth, and since Rem was attacked before that time, it was now impossible to go back in time to save Rem.

The third arc ends in sadness.

The webnovel is up to the sixth arc currently.

The first arc is the first LN, the second arc is LN volume 2 & 3, and the rest of the LN (up to volume 8 right now) are all arc 3.
Arc 3 likely will end in the 9th LN or so.

Meaning, by the time the anime ends it'll be caught up with the LN releases.

Read the whole thread again and found some summaries I missed. I heard Subaru gets penalized if he dies too many times on a stage. Can anyone elaborate?

So he's got a somewhat terminal condition on account of his fractured mana gate. This could be bad if it gets to the point it ends up killing him soon after a save point.

Here's my speculation for how this can end: After a ton of shit hits the fan, Subaru gets one last chance. He starts all the way from the beginning at the apple man and this time no do-overs. He's got to finish everything in one run arc to arc.

Here is an episode summary all the way to episode 6. Pacing is moving where I more or less expected (episode 6 is called the Sound of Chains). The 2nd arc should be finished by episodes 9 roughly, leaving the remaining 16 episodes for the rest of the 3rd arc.

That's what I was afraid of. Arc 3 isn't a good place to end.
