I'd understand if this was the other way around, meaning if females were rare and there were plenty of males to go around. But what is stopping ONE male from impregnating many females?? I mean, their species is going extinct, do they care so much about monogamy that they'd keep that custom (or whatever you want to call it) over preserving themselves?

Take Tigers for example. According to the internet we have lost 97% of their population within the last century, and right now only 3200 are left of which 20 are probably being killed for their bones while I type. Sad but true, soon the only places where they can be found will be Zoos, and that only if you surround their cages with SWAT teams.

The part where Hakuya remembers how Benio happily hold Mashiro's white cloth, chasing terrified Mashiro, and squeezing her.
I think I've got the same headache as him, and I thought please get used to it, if Kobeni and Hakuya really becomes boyfriend and girlfriend, of course they'll be happy, but Mashiro, you are going to be who will suffer the most. |

I've mentioned this before but Kobeni has three secrets to keep, but as of now only Konoha knows it.
Konoha: She made Mashiro cry and Kobeni cry two simultanius. She did not consider her wording means to others. Benio: Her love for Kobeni measurements has not changed, but rather her hate for Hakuya got stronger, what is going to become of Hakuya? Kobeni: Not worth mentioning but she is growing in many ways. She gave her all. Hakuya: He is the best character in my opinion, no kidding. Mashiro: She might take a big role in the future episodes, Benio's attitude towards Hakuya hints that. |

Hakuya is absolutely amazing. Everything about the episode was really nice, except Benio's little outburst at the end felt off to me. Like, she's been overprotective before, but from Episode 1 she knew they were going to be "engaged". That moment kinda soured the ending for me.

Ye gods. The amount of "everyone thinks everyone else is thinking something other than they're really thinking" was getting out of hand in this episode.
Okay, Benio, I've said there's a line between "creepy but still vaguely amusing pervert" and "attempted rapist" that you're not supposed to cross or I wouldn't be able to tolerate your presence any more, but there's also a line between "ordinary siscon," and "yandere" that you also shouldn't be crossing.

I'm hoping that with the romance progressing, the annoying characters will get dialed-back a bit. Beginning to wonder if the presence of those three annoyances might be an indication that the writers thiink the main story is too thin to carry the series. Could use some additional history to fill in some background instead of wasting more time with Benio, Mashiro and whats-her-name.

Even so, then what is this uneasiness I'm feeling?
That power of darkness coming from Benio, not a comedic but serious one. It reminds me of Yamineko the revenger Angel from Oreimo PSP game and just like Kyousuke, she seriously does not want Kobeni to have a boyfriend. |

Was Benio actually for or against Kobeni being married off to Hakuya? I seem to vaguely remember that she regretted not having been chosen for that herself, but I would assume that she would support Kobeni in whatever she'd decide nonetheless
I think Benio fears she might lose Kobeni if she were to get married to Hakuya, and this is apparently something she can't handle. I hope Kobeni steps up and tells her sister that she doesn't like her acting like this and that she wants to go through with the marriage, now realizing that she indeed has fallen for Hakuya.

Highly enjoyable episode. This is a sneaky-good show, just calmly entertaining us every week.
All the little-known seiyuus who are starring in this show are doing good jobs. But this week, I was enthralled by Matsui Eriko's performance as Benio. Her Ara. Gomen-nasai. ("Oh. I'm sorry.") when she knocked Hakuya down (at around 21:15) was so rich. Elegance, superiority, indifference, and comic self-importance all implied by the way she said it. Matsui Eriko 松井恵理子 age 25. b89.03.08 - bit parts in Sket Dance, Space Bros., etc. - Isuzu (Log Horizon) - Benio (Mikakunin de Shinkoukei) personal blog

Wow. The ep was really, really enjoyable. And also really well done, I thought. Kobeni continues to be absolutely adorable and endearing to the gazillion'th degree, but in a very down to earth and "real" way.
As for Benio, I would not worry overmuch. For all of her great talent and accomplishments and intellect she has a huge flaw - she has tunnel vision on an intellectual and especially an emotional level. No matter what her mind or feelings might rationally or reasonably outside of a particular context when the context itself arises (or when the rubber meets the road) and something "challenges" the tunnel vision of how things "ought" to be or how she wants things to be she just reacts. I think it is as simple as that. She is not in essence nasty, she is a creature of will. As the saying goes "She wants what she wants when she wants and how she wants it." Interestingly, I have heard it discussed that one of the best catalysts for geniuses is a sort of survival mode of trying to come to some sort of terms with the immense whirl of thoughts and feelings going on inside oneself, and Benio strikes me as possibly being something like that. But all that aside the thing that has been puzzling me for the longest time is if there is some reason why she is like that? I mean other than just being selfish and a cyclone of feelings and thoughts she has a terrible time trying to keep in check.
