I don't usually point out fanfic, but this is proof the remaining 10% if worth dying for. A perfect complement to episode 12.

If the characters don't find their "similarities" noteworthy, I'm inclined to believe those viewers are reading too much into it. On the other hand, the characters have noted Shirase has things in common with her mom (despite being more serious and introverted) but that goes unnoticed by the audience as far as I can see. That kind of bugs me.

Also why are they shipping Shirase with Kimari when Shirase / Hinata is the obvious OTP?

Yeah, I don't buy the ships either way. The four girls all have a True Companions / nakama but compared with Reina/Kumiko in Sound! Euphonium, I don't see any ship except for the Icebreaker

What about out of universe parallelism, foundations? What do you think of the suggestion that previous generations -posthumously- lend their name to characters and -real world- ships, re-imagined? Thaw.

Well, this was really great.

Agreed I don't see much Kimari/Takako parallels, nor any Shirase X Kimari hints except for very strong friendship. Still, beautiful fic.

A really wonderful series' finale!

The girls really looked like they enjoyed themselves and had fun on this trip. There's even some baseball! (lol, I was not expecting that) Also, Shirase with the haircut change! I feel like it's a nice way for her to reinvent herself including a bit of physical appearance. Felt like the episode was a nice way to conclude the anime as it reflects on the experience these characters went through as part of their journey.

Personally, I really enjoyed this show for what it is and the way it ended impressed me more than enough.

Going to miss this anime

Wonderful series indeed.

Also, Shirase's such a great character. One of the best female characters I've seen in a long time. She grew so much over the course of the show.

Yeah, while I and others had been waiting for their reunion, this is even better. Not just for the surprise, but for the meaning: as they parted, Meg had said that just as Kimari always depended on her and was finally growing independent, she had always depended on Kimari and was trying to finally take the first steps to live her own life. And just as landing on Antarctica made Kimari grow, Meg has managed to grow herself. And even if they're far apart, they're still in many ways of one heart and mind. True friends even on opposite sides of the world.

I loved this series such a great series!
Enjoyed the ride and like others I am hoping for an ova.
Also Megu nice work. She’s going to be in the Arctic for winter.

It's both a hilarious thing and a good emotional way to end it. More so than just her friend sitting around waiting for her to come back. She also went through personal growth and decided to take steps forward. Of course a bit sad in some ways that it will make their reunion way further off than Kimari might have imagined. But the growth factor for Megu is worth it.

By the time she gets back that willl be something worth celebrating. Unless of course Kimari somehow gets into yet another journey .

It all ended where it began: with Kimari in her bed, though this time she is coming from back an adventure that her first episode self would never have had to courage to go on. She made new friends, got to see new things, and even changed the stagnant relationship she had with her best friend. I imagine that those two will have a lot to talk about when Megu comes back, unless they enter a cycle where one comes back from a adventure only to find out that the other is starting a new one .

It was a beautifully ironic ending , which makes me give it a pass for its only slight flaw - summer just ended in the Antarctic, and they got to see the night, stars, and aurora, so how is it night in the Arctic too?

Well, unless she sent a photo she took a few weeks before .

Yeah, that was a really good way to wrap up the show. Totally one of the highlights of the season.

This episode more than made up for any issues I might have had with the earlier parts of the story ("less angst, more penguins"). One of the best episodes of the year for me so far. The last one was pretty strong as well.

And we got more penguins! How come Yuzuki didn't have to abide by the five-meter rule? That scene reminded me of the Cousteau video that BBOvenGuy posted. Maybe if the penguins come to you, it's okay?

So Shirase sent nearly 1,500 e-mails to her mother without a reply? What a story they would tell.

Basically, yeah. It's mostly a rule of thumb.

Someone posted a fanfiction, a few posts above, that was exactly about this. You can go read it to finish crying any tears your ducts have left .

If Summer just ended, then that means it's the beginning of Autumn. At that time, even if you're in the Arctic/Antarctic Circles you'll still get day and night. If you're at the pole itself, then yes you'll only see one sunrise and sunset per year (and both will take days), but the further you are the less time you have with permanent day/night, with Spring and Autumn having intervals of both. So no, there's no real error in showing night in the Arctic at the end of Summer for the southern hemisphere and Winter for the northern.
