I know I'm the fourth one here echoing the statement, but yeah, definitely more interesting than Fairy Gone. They probably should have taken an episode or two to flesh out the squad more though.

Read some of the source manga for this some time ago.

One major difference the anime's done is

adapt later manga material covering Hank's past as incarnate commander to form the prologue episode. This happened after the manga's fleshing out of Hank and Charlotte's (the dark-haired girl) characters (in an odd-couple fashion) during the course of their journey. I suppose the anime staff wanted to give more action-filled context to reel male viewers in.

Squad fleshing out is done over the course of the manga's main story via flashbacks, which we should get to see after the actual MC - the girl - meets and teams up with Hank.

Fun fact, the manga creators also made Dusk Maiden of Amnesia and the ongoing Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari.

Pretty good start to this anime, I enjoyed this first episode a lot.

So basically this season's Fairy Gone?

First of all, they probably should have spent more time fleshing out the characters before killing them off. Since they didn't, the audience was treated to an entire episode building up to a very predictable point with no emotional attachment to anything that goes on.
Wait... So Fairy Gone?

Anyways, it doesn't help that we are apparently in a world where
1. It is common for foot soldiers to charge at stone walls/castles/whatever
2. Despite having monster humans that can decimate the enemy fortress, they still bother to sacrifice foot soldiers for no real reason
3. Apparently, the enemy of the monster humans are strong enough that the war doesn't end in a day... which is impossible unless the enemy also has monster humans or the monster humans conveniently become weak enough at times to be killed by normal weaponry in this age of foot soldier charges.

Anyways...

KatsuKami came first and Fairy Gone is what referenced it.

Though, the real reason why this show is better is because KatsuKami is actually Zone of Enders 2.

Looks like I am the only one who liked it less than Fairy Gone.

The setting and production are great but the characters look much more flat, the monsters remind me of Digimons (they dfo not looks meancing) and the general plot looks was to straightforward and cliche as of now.

I will still watch it but my exptetions are low as of now.

Nice to see they started with the background instead of the weekly monster format interspaced with flashbacks. Makes it easier for viewers

Anyways seeing this introduction to Hank's squad's degeneration, I hope they manage to retain the emotional impact of each of their arcs. Not easy to do on animated medium especially with so many of them

I was about to drop it since when they say those three were childhood friends and cain screamed antagonist, I was sure there was NTR here, but it was more simple than that thank god (at least for now.)

Since Fairy Gone is like a 0, I don't think liking it more or less is that telling.

I bet NTR is going to be a factor. Cain didn't have to take Elaine's body and run.

I don't know what you are talking about. It reminded people of Fairy Gone, and they simply said it. You might not like it, but it is perfectly legit.

Watched episode 1:

Simply amazing, so Hank is now hunting down his former comrades.. espescially that Cain guy. Also liking the american civil war vibes with those ironclads and the soldiers behind the wall.

Much better than Fairy Gone. Will be staying in this thread for awhile.

It was inevitable but comparing this to Fairy Gone is really a disservice to KatsuKami if only because it has been around far longer than Fairy Gone and with a different focus. The two titles are practically different enough to stand on their own without referencing each other
