ok I like this dude but why does he always fight with women? Is it because he is physically not up to it with other men? or maybe the mangaka finds it better to show how smart he is when he pairs shikimaru up with a female since the fights are more mental than physical? just curious

I believe it's karma... in a past life he was a misogynist. Now he's paying his penance by being forced to deal with girls when he really doesn't want to, otherwise they'd kick his ass.

It really is the worst having to fight girls. If you lose, you're a pansy... and if you win, you're a jerk

I'm not saying girls are weak but that's just how most people see things.

Well, I hope Shikamaru continues to play an important role in the series and just maybe, he'll get to fight against a guy.

Props to Konoha's #1 lazy genius. =D

So are you just discounting the fight vs. the 9 Sound ninja?

It's probably because aside from Shino, it would be a pretty boring fight.
Either he'd get overwhelmed by someone else's speed and power, or he'd completely own them.

The female characters that he's fought are more strategy oriented.

well that wasn't much of a fight, he just kinda did the shadow jutsu then got saved by Asuma, so I really wouldn't count it.

albeit, he fought them with Ino and Chouji, but he still did a fairly good job

They we're too soft in the fight in the second chunnin exam.
Dosu was completely binded. Choji should have rolld his ass over ;D then shikimaru moves onto Zaku and finally Ino knockes herself out and SPLAT! for a third time

that is not that hard you can set it up a certin way and then there is a way to do it in like 20 moves or so

Haha, all of those are good theories but I think the main reason he always fights women is because Kishi decided to do that. After all, since Shika thinks all women to be troublesome, what better irony than to have all Shika's opponents be female? I think it's a tiny joke sort of thing in the series- laughing at Shika's expense, you know.

Shikamaru should take control of the ANBU section.....as something like a general...or advisors have that kind of authority aswell i guess. To order them around...i think he would be also an awesome ANBU platoon/squad leader.

That way he'll clear the bad rep that ANBU has....like dying so quickly...

It maybe because Kishimato doesn't want female to participate in violent battles. Shikamaru's style doesn't consist of violence unlike others, so that can be the reason why he is paired with female opponents. He can beat them up without going wild. Well, my two cents ^^
