The Strike Freedom thing... on one hand, it is (almost) exactly what I argued so often about the Strike Freedom's in-atmosphere performance.
On the other hand, it's a really fuckin' shitty depiction. The narrower wings of light are the only saving grace, but if that's their best attempt at replicating the wing stance from the models, it's a piss-poor attempt.

I can sorta see how they'd make it look like the one model pose, with the wings open and the DRAGOONs extended from the racks, but as far as the illustration goes... they clearly just drew the gold parts over the DRAGOONs, which as a result now look super-narrow. Not as noticeable when animated, I suppose, but still clearly terrible.

That's the exact kind of thinking that prevents us from getting better quality in anything. If people give studios and such the okay for that kind of shoddy improvement, they'll keep doing that kind of shoddy improvement.

I'm talking in terms of Destiny. For Destiny's animation, it's clearly better than the original. Amd it's a ramaster, where audio and resolution/quality is enhanced with a few touches to the animation. For Destiny, it's pretty clear they redrew most of the scene (not in terms of having the scenes chamged with new animation).

Was anyone else saddened that Kira didn't honor the Strike when he made the Strike Freedom? It was only a powered up Freedom....
Strange that Shinn with his (Destiny) Impulse and Destiny ended being the true successors of the Strike even though he never piloted it as the Strike was destroyed before ORB was. |

Judging from the conflicting accounts of the suit's development; I think Lacus was the one who named it in honor of both the Strike and the Freedom. It's highly possible that the customizations to the suits came after the two prototypes were stolen, which would point to the possibility that Lacus named them.

So the legacy of the Strike was carried on by Shinn despite him never even seeing the Strike before. |

I wouldn't call that a lament. He's just sorry from a utilitarian viewpoint.
In fact, if there's anything that Kira appreciate about the Freedom, it's that it allows him to fight the way he wants to fight, thus he was grateful at receiving the Strike Freedom, which also serves the same purpose. |

I would also like to note that Kira, if he had any attachment at all to his suits, was probably the least fond of the Strike. He was forced to pilot it out of necessity, and he killed quite a few people in it (not saying that he did not kill in the Freedom's, its just at that point in time while he piloted the Strike he outright killed, and the suit tech did not allow for the style he would later adopt and utilize to its full extent in the Freedom's, by Destiny we see that he can indeed fight similarly in the Strike, but its tech compared to the current units that were mass fielded did not give him significant advantage outside of very small engagements) |

Out of show though it was called Super Freedom in early ads until it was later changed to the Strike Freedom. It had nothing to do with it's in show development. It's just an example of how shoddy the production was, especially in the case of SF and IJ which they still can't seem to totally make of their minds how they came about. First they were stolen. Then Lacus built them. Then Lacus stole their base designs/plans and built them from that. First they had the old NJC engines. Then they had the new Hyper Deutrion Engines that Destiny and Legend had. Etc. It's just a mess.
Of course Kira did have sentimental views towards Freedom as shown from his minor sadness when it was destroyed. After all Lacus's father died so he could have it, and it's basically a symbol of his bond with Lacus and their willingness to go against the tide and stop the war in the first Seed. But at the end of the day it's still just a machine and so long as Kira survived he could keep fighting the good fight. Strike Freedom by contrast (when looking at it out of show anyway) was just a Deus Ex Machina Lacus pulled out of nowhere so Kira could have to a new model ki...I mean Gundam to sel....show off, and so Shinn's Destiny wouldn't steal Kira's thunder. |
