*draws deep breath, then counts to ten*
Let me get the ugly out of the way first. During the fanservice bathing scene I was seething with anger. To be blunt: This kind of crap is grating on my nerves, TERRIBLY so. If you feel the need to service the juveniles like that, then PLEASE do it as some separate extras. It’s totally ruining the pacing, it’s totally ruining the suspense, and I feel kind of insulted that I’m supposed to LIKE this crap. This has been the low point of the Mai franchise for me so far. On the plus side, the rest was good, and in fact, several parts have even been excellent. Lots of Nao (return of the MVP, wonderful!), lots of Nina (a pleasing alternative to the mass naked child event), and a pretty intense underground action scene. What I don’t get: The first OVA already did a terrific job at developing a credible and suspenseful threat. The second OVA was a letdown, because it didn’t keep up the pressure, but deflated it in some stupid comedy. And the third one would have been excellent if the first 10 minutes had been cut away, because afterwards things tagged along fine. I watch the Mai Universe for the suspense parts. No problem with Comedy AT THE RIGHT SPOTS. They’re simply not there here. Imagine the Mai Hime end run, with stupid pool fanservice tossed into the middle. If you do suspense/action, KEEP it that way. And outsource tits-comedy to extras instead of the main storyline. Otherwise you end up with a loaf of strawberry jam with fish on top. That’s what we have here. |

From those pics looks like the normal crap I hate in series, but if Mentar hates it this much then Sunrise must have made real fools of themsevs. (like usual) Who's all this fan-service aimed at anyway?

Seriously...? *fumes* darn it, now my imagination will go into hyper overdrive planning out how Otome will end and I know already that whatever I envision will NOT be the way it plays out. It's waaaay~ too much to ask that Mai and Kagutsuchi be reunited. *sniffs then prays anyway* But about OVA 3. I'll wait for the RAW. Nao was sure brave although now Nao will be the most wanted partner amongst blue-haired girls (first Natsuki now Nina). |

Just saw the darned epdisode (along with me Limited Edition Azure-Sky Arika-Chan figure that came with it) and...
1) Really liked the various tongue in cheek references to the good-old Indiana Jones movies in the Dungeon-Crawl sequences with Nina and Nao... someone THAT clumsy REALLY shouldn`t be exploring trap-filled Dungeons. 2)...WHOALY shit Nao`s OVA materialization is FUC-KING-SE-XY!! 3) Hey-Hey Lighten Up. OVAs are (originally) made for people who are willing to pay the extra milelage to see things that are `too hot for TV` and all that jazz. Sunrise was not out to offend you personally, just appealing to a specifiacally focused mass market that`s all... .... and GOOD GRIEF Rosalie-Chan is one hottie and a half!! 4) This is the first time in an anime franchise I simultaneously love to death one version of a character and Hate With Homicidal Fury the alternate version of her: It is almost impossible to believe that the cheeky, sexy but warm and considerate Nao of the Otome universe had such a cold-and-heartless base in the original series. @Mentar - If you really expected Zwei to be any different than the 26 episodes of Otome that preceded it, I'm not sure what to tell you. One would think it was pretty obvious that Otome (while at times quite serious) is more fanservice oriented than Hime was. Plot and pacing? Both series suffer from odd choices in those regards. It's best to just enjoy it for what it is, and move on. No point in making a fuss because it isn't what you wanted it to be.
@Ronin Aquila - Maybe, maybe not. There just isn't enough information to suppose one way or the other. It's possible they blacklisted her from the system, for example.
