Review done. Really, the biggest monster there is the thing that looks the youngest. That speaks loads about looks being deceiving.

Elias' true form is terrifying. No wonder so many fear him.
He used to be a dog who thought he was people, as they say. I wonder if it's really a thing.

I also wonder how he saw Isabelle's hair color, considering dog's eyesight.

Likely why he mistook Isabellas ginger/orange hair for Chise's red hair

Episode 8:

This episode had a lot of emotions imo. It's nice to see more of Ruth's past and the Chimera that resembled Isabelle really bought a good amount of psychology into the episode.

Chise really impressed me with her courage and determination. She and Ruth had some nice character chemistry that I think we'll see more in this season.

On the visual side, is it me or did this episode seem a bit dark? I mean, there were a few scenes that I had trouble seeing. Maybe it's just my visual resolution..

The direction/flow in this episode seemed a bit off to me. Some scenes were abrupt(it was hard following sometimes maybe the dark scenes stark700 mentioned were partly at fault as well) while others seemed to be oblivious toward the antagonist being right in front of them (it was nice of Cartaphilus to wait for them). Obviously we have that a lot in anime, it's not unusual but it doesn't change being weird for me everytime I see it.

Overall a great episode though. Can't complain too much since we rarely get these kinda series sadly.

Is it made apparent later on why Chise chose "Ruth" as the name for Ulysse? I presume she knows that Ruth is a female name, but maybe coming from Japan she wasn't aware of that?

I rewatched this series with my daughter who's home for Thanksgiving and continued to wonder what language they all had in common. The scene in Angelica's shop brought that question to mind. It's hard to imagine that Chise knows English, but perhaps she learned some in school? Obviously Elias and the others in England don't speak Japanese.

There was a reason for choosing that name...

That was indeed a very dark episode in terms of animation, a bit too much I have to say.

Still the episode was really good, we learned more about the past of Ruth and Isabelle which is quite sad, after all that time he was still looking after Isabelle but now she can finally rest in peace. Chise on the other hand managed to get her own familiar, a Black Grim on top of that who will be always watching her and helping on everything she needs until the last of her days.

Elias cleary knows more about Joseph than anyone else there, on one side Joseph is a malevolent being that can't die and that's maybe the reason why he does such terrible things but at the same time is not an excuse to make other people suffer so much even after dying. Hopefully we can see more of him in the future.

As for the Preview... My heart is not ready.

She basically learned to speak, read and write good English on the plane to Britain. The auction guy gave her some books to read.

She knows English well enough to get by. She can speak it functionally, but she's a bit slower when it comes to reading it.

Googling his name, bringing a wikipedia page about the wandering jew. Assuming this is the same guy
Quote:
The Wandering Jew is a mythical immortal man whose legend began to spread in Europe in the 13th century.

The original legend concerns a Jew who taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion and was then cursed to walk the earth until the Second Coming. The exact nature of the wanderer's indiscretion varies in different versions of the tale, as do aspects of his character; sometimes he is said to be a shoemaker or other tradesman, while sometimes he is the doorman at Pontius Pilate's estate.

Is Will O' wisp guy voiced by Ishida Akira? His voice sounded familiar.

So I wasn't the only one who thought the scenes were too dark. Some things were a bit hard to see.

In terms of content, the episode was great. Elias was terrifying at the beginning of the episode, him tearing that chimera apart wasn't a pretty sight. I'm glad Chise turned out to be safe and managed to calm him down.

Josef turned out to be even more of a monster than I thought. Given that he's immortal, he's obviously there to stay, and will most likely be the primary antagonist of the series. I'm quite interested in his background and his motives now.

For someone who is apparently going to die in a few years....Chise is remarkably durable . How she isn't bleeding out I'm not sure.

And as always, why is it the evil people who are cursed with immortality? That's really helpful! Just drop an immortal plague on humanity that they can't do anything about.

Still some cool moments in the episode. Chise about to go berserk was great. Would have been fun to see how her 'attack' would have turned out. Oh well. I suppose the downside of letting her attack would have been too severe for her body.

Better yet make them immortal and yet intangible (at least make them so they can’t influence anything) so that they get to suffer for their crimes for all eternity and yet unable to bring misery to everyone else surrounding them.

so.....why was Chise fine after taking such a hit last episode again?
Was it just a shallow wound or something? It looked so serious that Elias lost his sh*t

and the preview....oh dear....some other sh*t is about to go down again

I didn't expect this show to be so dark

Magic has a price, it is not a safe occupation. Angelica has an arm full of crystal, Renfred is missing an entire arm plus his facial scratches. Chise's body is destroying itself with wild magic and even archmage Elias knows better than to mess with the greater Powers that exist around them. Sure there are fairies and flowers but even they have their dark sides.
