Personally I don't see why this situation is so difficult to comprehend. They had sex, bodily fluids were exchanged, otherwise how else was Alto able to communicate via fold-waves in episode 25?

I don't mean to further hijack this thread but wasn't Sheryl's earring the reason Alto could communicate with fold waves?

Even way back in episode 7 Alto was able to hear Sheryl and Ranka's singing and he had one of the earrings back then as well.

That is, unless you're referring to another incident

It's just one of the documented ways in which WNV can be communicated to a healthy person. A very intimate one, no more no less. It was simply an example used to illustrate that all kinds of close personal contact can lead to infection - obviously, those would include something like having sex.

Hey, don't believe me, I don't really mind. I also can't really see why it should matter, either way.

By "bad example," you seem to be implying that WNV is an STI because it can be transmitted by means of breast milk. Strictly speaking, this point is relevant to the present discussion only if a) the woman in question is currently producing breast milk and b) her partner insists on drinking it. If this strikes your fancy as a requisite part of sexual intercourse, then by all means, feel free to call it an "STI".

My main point, somewhere in my first post on the subject, was that you can't think of "bodily fluids" as a collective entity. A pathogen can be present in one or more of those "bodily fluids", and yet not be present in every "bodily fluid".
