Wow 25 years eh, yeah they're being replaced by DVD's and SS storage but they're still extremely useful. With the HD format wars ongoing this is still going quite strong. Actually I wonder why music is still being sold on CD still? I half expected them to be sold on some sort of Compact flash disk by now. |

Must be because no-one particularly feels like replacing their 20-year old audiophile equipment. =)
I hear CDs aren't as durable nowadays as they used to make them: is that true? Hehe...didn't Sony/Phillips introduce some DVD-Audio format? Clearly that hasn't seen much in the way of adoption at all. |

Artists aren't going to record that many songs on a single album, so CDs are still very much viable. Higher quality recordings probably would have negligible difference on most people's audio systems, and even hearing that difference is quite difficult. What would succeed the CD, is something of smaller physical format with greater protection. Could be anything. =P
