It crossed most of the boxes for a cute girl doing cute things show (like the absence of males on screen), except the girls are a lot more sexy than cute, with a relatively mature look and huge boobies.

But then I learned that there is an ecchi spin-off manga with a male MC taking place a few years later. First thing the MC does when he enters the salon is trying to pinch Nashiko's nipples (she doesn't wear a bra) at Pai's urging. So I guess that explains the designs? Still really weird.

Anyway, the highlight was the talking bird voiced by Akio Ohtsuka. It wasn't even the only bird I heard talk today.

Edit: there is also a proper manga adaptation with the cute designs you'd expect. Shit's weird.

This was on my radar in part due to the art (though I don't really like Quints) but it feels like Sakura Quest or something from PA Works with a mahjong theme. Its neat so far though admittedly I'm not really a fan of mahjong; I have played enough ecchi mahjong games to know the rules more or less though. I'll give it a couple more episodes anyway.

I didn't catch the wordplay in the title until just now -- Pon no Michi" set in the real Japanese seaside town of Onomichi. This town was the setting for the older anime series Kamichu! but it's updated, showing the new railway station and the "castle" that used to be up on the hill is no longer there, demolished a couple of years ago. I think the cable cars in the PV are the new replacement ones too.

Spoiler for initial impressions:

Getting to make an original anime and just doing cute girls doing stuff is questionable, but that itself... is fine. Do It Yourself was great after alls

However, the barrage of Majong manga jokes was pretty bad and the stupid mascot bird was also just noise to the "braindead enjoying cute girls" thing
Just... just focus on the girls. Kaiji (and co.) jokes are so overdone that it isn't just automatically funny

Either way, not gonna expect this to be something as genuinely fun to watch like DIY

I thought that was a good thing. They actually bothered explaining the basic rules because of that instead of assuming the viewer is a mahjong expert like all those shows do.

I learned mahjong way back when Akagi aired but I've forgotten some suits and I never got the hang of counting points which was by far the hardest part (thankfully, when you play online you don't have to).

The newbie perspective is great for non-players like myself and actually made things easy to follow. This is one of the biggest gripes I had about Saki, which never bothered with explanations and left me completely in the dark as to the significance of certain actions, some of which beginners might not be familiar with (and certainly be expected to "educate themselves" on).

No more mahjong tutorial in the second episode. So if you were hoping to learn with this show, better luck next time.

The episode was pretty fun. The comedy didn't rely on references this time around, and the girls are likable. Wondering how the goth girl will fit in and what they'll do about Riche only being able to be there on the weekends. I guess the remaining girl could just play during the week instead.

And damn, those tits.

Mao came back from the dead for this match. The two guys on the ship are Dick Cheney and George W. Bush (on the scooter). I don't recognize the guy in the final scene.

Watched the first half of episode one. They all sure are busty!
