To those who have trouble with the subtitles.. Have you guys tried DirectVobSub? I had it installed here on my computer and its icon comes out whenever I play Episode 1 of this show.

Hey, that was fun (ep1). Great character design: clean and fresh. And Koshimizu Ami is the best I've ever heard her, as Tenko. She's also good in her totally different current role of Paraietta, the senior pilot, in Simoun.

I see a couple of things differently from itlandm. It's seems clear to me that Tenko has romantic feelings for Samatarou. Probably not realistic for two people who've grown up together, but this is anime. I think she was less embarrassed by finding herself in his blanket than just delighted and enjoying it.

Here is how I think: Tenko and Samatarou are very close. If their relationship was a romantic one, it would have advanced far. If it was come that far, there would be erotic feelings. If there were such feelings, sharing a blanket would be embarassing because it makes you think of sharing a bed, just like sharing a glass makes you think of a kiss.

Here is how I think it really is: Tenko and Samatarou have a closeness like that of twins, but are not related by blood. Therefore none of them understand what they feel. Samatarou just takes her for granted, as if she is part of himself. He has not yet really seen her. Tenko is more mature (as girls usually are at that age) and has come to think of him. But she does not understand her feelings yet.

My prediction for the next episodes (I have not read the novels so I'm just making this up): Tenko will experience jealousy and this will make her think of her relationship with Samatarou as a romantic one. She will not be able to support him when he courts the new girl, but will try to sabotage him. Only when she succeeds and sees that Samatarou is unhappy will she realize that she has been wrong all the time, and support him.

That's how I think real people would act, but as you say, this is anime. Anything could happen. That is the great fun of it.

Then after the long support Tenko has given him, Samatarou realizes that it really is Tenko who he really loves and that the new girl was just a passing crush. Cliche? Yes, but I love it as it never really does get old for me! :P

Hey sue me; I'm in the demographic that adores Osana-Najimi. I blame my teachers forcing me to read Anne of Green Gables when I was in an impressionable age. XD

As for impressions, the humour wackiness and romance sub-theme reminded me of Kage Kara Mamoru, except this time the main lead has 'fallen' for another girl. But hey, theres a good possibility he'll change his heart near the end of the series. ^_^

Agree with all the things you've wrote except the part in your prediction of Tenko's sabotaging act. Jealousy most likely will be there, but I don't think she will act on it. I think she likes him to the point of her being aware of her own feelings toward him. Hence, I think she won't be in the way of him and the new girl in any manner other than inadvertantly letting Samatarou comes into realization of his own through her support. Btw, there is also a fair chance that we are both wrong and things shape into a crude comedy by the end of 2nd episode, thanks to the lingering affects of BLOOMER. Samatarou goes after one of the candidate for goddess and the whole thing turns into a Onegai-Onichan fest which enables Tenko to be in the hunt once again. I can only hope.

The awaiting for the next episode is getting unbearable here. Almost..

Another fansub of the first episode. Interesting. It is rare to see so much difference in translation of conversational text. The first translation seemed more relaxed, more focused on making sense in English, but in any case this is a nice opportunity to see the text from different angles, for us who understand very little Japanese. I'll probably continue to watch them both for a while if they keep subbing the series. Also, the orz version translated the ending song, and alas it was just the sugary love song it seemed. Oh well.

Well, I don't know the story at all either, but my prediction is different. I believe that Tenko is indeed the "designated girl" and match for Samatarou and will eventually edge out Kumiko. It's clear that she's going to be very jealous of her and I agree that while she will try to "support" him first, she'll soon realize her own feelings and try her best to prevent Samatarou from getting TOO close to Kumiko. And I pray that we're not going to get a fake triangle a'ka KOR (Madoka-Kyosuki-Hikari), but that Kumiko will be able to bite back

Nevertheless, as much as I feel pity for her, I'm almost willing to bet money on that Kumiko will NOT end up the "accepted" match for him. If so, the ED wouldn't be all Tenko.

For me, I just felt like she likes him. I could say this because when Samatarou was annoying his friends for saying that Samatarou and Tenko likes each other,Tenko was in weird mode.Plus she was like when Shinichi came in to interrupt the conversation.For the next episode, I think Samatarou could easily get Kumiko like he always gets what he wanted in his life.But I can't tell this for sure because the one who will start first could be Kumiko instead of Samatarou himself.Then the things will getting much more crazier ^^

Isn't the whole point that Samatarou decides to NOT get Kumiko falling in his lap, but will win her by his own power as a human, without divine intervention? Of course, this could set us up for the utter hilarity of Samatarou (or Tenko) suspecting God's finger when it's actually just ordinary coincidences or even Kumiko trying to make him notice her. That kind of complications would be fun and could last for quite a while. A boy rival would also be good, perhaps his best friend (Shinichi)?

I am not so sure about Tenko's feelings, she has so many different. She worries about him, she beats him up, she tries to control his life, she is jealous... but she is never embarrassed or confused, she never has the "doki doki", she is simply too comfortable with him for a romance. In all ways she acts like a more responsible sister to a less responsible brother.

If the two of them are to get together, they first need to come apart. Perhaps that will begin with episode 2?

Minami Aoyama Shoujo Book Centre feature the protagonist, Haruyama Mario (from Super Mario Brothers' Mario), a very unlucky guy who lost his mother because of his father's terrible child-naming sense, and always have disaster in the worst time. Because he failed taking test in every high school, he had to go for the last resort. His aunt, Miyamae Reiko is a principal and owner of high school in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo.

So, the country boy goes to Tokyo, and first target is to buy porn books in Tokyo, because it's impossible to buy it in his hometown. There, he went to Minami Aoyama Girls Book Centre (MGBC) and got thrown with the porn book by the cashier (a girl) calling him hentai. He got rammed by a truck and ends up in the hospital for two weeks.

Not enough with the unluckiness, he founds out later that the girl, Haruko is his aunt's daughter, with terrible case of dansei kyoufu (boys phobia). Then, the school, Miyamae private school is an all-girls school. Mario is put by his aunt to the D class, a class full of girls with that problem, where breathing the same air as a man is already as scary as breathing the air coming from nuclear reactor.
That's a special class for rehab, with homeroom teacher who had the same problem as her students. Mario will become the male subject for them to overcome their fear.

Will he survive the class, and will he become a good tenchou in the book store who kicked him out in his first visit ? Oh well.
