Watched the first episode, and the switch over from something light-hearted to serious was great, and it reminds me a bit of _Tactical Roar_ from a decade ago (sans token male character).
One thing that I am wondering about is does anyone knows what "hare" means / translates into? I tried a few translation sites for it on my own and the one that actually came up with something came up with "clear weather? |

Hmm... just watched the first episode, and I will echo several other posters in saying that I was quite surprised to see the anime go from a slice of life on a battleship to a serious drama series. Will follow this one to see how things go from here.

Here's Ep2 preview https://a.pomf.cat/pdyewb.mp4
I want to take the time to talk a little about shipborne shrines and the relationship to the Suwa Shrine at Yokosuka, which is a partner to Highschool Fleet and is featured in the ep2 preview. Spoiler for suwa shrine screenshot:
Basically, shipborne shinto shrines are still found in JMSDF, although offering boxes are not present on these shrines due to the constitutional separation of religion and the state. Destroyers in IJN were a bit freer in which patron deity they host (could just be the ship's own spirit), but when you get to cruiser levels, you are inviting the patron of the namesake over to the ship. Spoiler for large image where a shipborne shrine has appeared in Hai-furi:
(image from http://www.museum.tokushima-ec.ed.jp...adamasama.html) Typically speaking, a ship would have a shrine installed over the steering room, and you would see that the deity is male/female pair. The shrine would be taken off of the ship and enshrined in some private household when the ship's decommissioned. The partner shrine in Highschool Fleet is of some significance, for the Suwa shrine worships the Takeminakata-no-mikoto 建御名方命, or Suwa Myojin 諏訪明神. If you play Touhou, then this name is going to make sense to you. This god received the order to conquer the land of Izumo (plains of Japan in this sense) for the son of Amaterasu (think the Emperor) and well, after that work's done, he went to the land of Suwa (Nagano prefecture, lake Suwa) to fight this mountain god Moreya-no-kami and he won and became the patron god there. This deity is god of the wind, of agriculture, of the hunt and of war, so it's not hard to see the relevance of it when you have a ship that's named Harekaze 晴風 (cloudy wind) that's hosting this shrine at the naval port of Yokosuka.

I'm hoping this goes into full battle mode. Cute girls fighting out at sea in giant war ships. That sounds cool. They can keep some cute girl shenanigans but it'd be cool if they show these girls fighting the higher ups and stuff. And then other ships join their side while some fight against them. And then we have Mike fighting against her friend. It would be pretty cool I think.

It would be reason enough for anyone but Moka. She's Mike's best friend and knows her better than anyone. Plus, she's intelligent and competent enough to be made captain of the school's flagship. All in all, it wouldn't make any sense for her to believe that Mike went rogue.

We still don't know why Musashi came late. Any possibility is still up in the air. However, I will like it more if Moeka become ally with Akeno. And that mysterious golden hair girl in the OP might play an important role in the story.
At this moment, I am more wondering about how will Akeno decide what to do in the following battle with ship(s) that came to hunt them down. Will she order to use real round/torpedo or she will play good guy by using only practice round/torpedo to return fire?

my hype is that the girls might also start doing guerilla warfare, on their jet-ski's, while wielding rifles & rocket launchers, starts brutally slaughtering on who ever is behind this conspiracy on their wrongful conviction of a crime they did not commit, then the OP song is suddenly replaced with MAN WITH A MISSION........

Second; We know almost nothing about Moka other than that she's Mike's childhood friend, they haven't seen each other for a long time, and that she's in a much higher station with more responsibilities and expectations on her. We have no idea what her life has been like it what kind of person she has become. Third; Her instructor has blatantly lied about her own and Mike's actions, it would come as no surprise if the instructor or school/government exaggerates the incident in an attempt to force Moka into action should she refuse. We don't know what's going to happen. I hope Moka doesn't go after Mike, or at least attempts to secretly help her. |
