What I thought she meant is that they would be releasing the full ranking of the preliminaries, not just top 10, and that way they would be able to present all the 10 new characters. Is that interpretation not possible with that announcement?

No, I think her dad seriously wants her to succeed as an idol, in order to further his Kirara research. He probably didn't mean for Chieri to react the way she did... unless he has an even bigger plan that this is all a part of. Planning ten steps ahead?

He might not be telling the truth. People have speculated that he's been planning Chieri's rise to idolhood for years. Chieri was on Lancastar at the beginning of episode 1, which means her father probably had business there. Most likely, some Zodiac factories are located on Lancastar. As for other things on the same planet... Dualium, hmm...

Well, we'll see. The smug, mysterious way he's been portrayed so far implies that everything is keikaku doori for Mr. Sono, but perhaps he makes mistakes or changes his mind too.

The big question is... why make artificial Kirara at all? What benefit will he have in creating Kirara? Free energy? Warp Drive Technology? Is it related to the light in Kirara that's so magical?

/unrelated I find it sad no one remembers Earth in AKB universe.

Both. Right now Zodiac uses dualium for these purposes, but it needs to be extracted from the soil, meaning who knows how much money spent on mining. That means if he manages to synthesize kiraras he will be making tons of money by replacing the current FTL technology.

So the other top 8 was indeed the main successors. I guess it's confirmed those 8 are the current most popular successors. Surprised at Tomochin getting 3rd.

The preview doesn't says much that we already didn't know from last episode. But then, they wouldn't want to give away any rank before the actual episode.

The elections went as much as I expected, with Chieri refusing to give up and Yuuko basically getting on top.
Nagisa's thoughts were all over the place, IMO, and I felt there wasn't a clear idea on how to develop her character in this episode.
I have to wonder what's exactly up with Sensei-Sensei... Can they also explain what is he?
The flow of the episode wasn't bad at all, but I felt they may need a boost in pace, since there's basically nothing solved as of now.

Nagisa thoughts were going all over the place in the beginning but from Tomochin rank onwards she changed it from finally understand and admiring the general elections, and also getting the a bit of the spirit of competition she lacked. She seems serious now on trying to become a better idol.
