It's been fun. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (and hope that I haven't ruined any of the emotional moments with awkward phrasing... hey, I didn't have time to re-read it thoroughly).

I must say, it was better than I thought, except one thing.

He murdered Kalinin. And I don't mean the character's death - he just threw out the image of the character he created himself.
In Voice of the North, we get a rational, pragmatic, but human, and honourable officer. Mind you - he seemed to remain that way even after his wife died, in fact, he started caring about Sousuke from that time on.
In ZSBM, Kalinin is a goddamn failure. Not only is he not genre-savvy, he doesn't make sense at all. It's like he was replaced by a figure holding a poster which reads "one more villain for added drama". Yes, the last moment was good - the "Ikinasai" created a nice link to the past. However, everything else he does goes against that short story. It's like - you know, if you want him to become a half-crazed old coot that spits out cliche lines, then show it. What's in the book now is just an excuse.

This is the only big inconsistency that's been bothering me. Otherwise, it was better, and much more intense than I expected. Were this to be animated, it would be simply glorious.

MisterV deserves some GIANT kudos for finishing up that translation work in such short order. I am well and truly impressed.

I liked it. It wasn't the best story and the end wasn't perfect, but FMP was still really fun to obsess about for a couple of years. It's really a unique series IMO, and Sousuke has got to be one of the most hilarious (and badass) characters of modern anime. Again, I thank MisterV for his fast and quality translation and Shoji Gatou for making the damn thing.

PS: Does anyone know how popular FMP is? What's the probability of this being animated?

But only one thing that concerns me:
Am I the only one who thinks that Sousuke's a bit out of character in the final book? Not just this one, the one before too?
Well, it's not that bad but I can hardly imagine him saying such rude things to her.... and of course talking that much.

Ending's a little bit abrupt to me.

" Of course," Sousuke, his face sullen as usual, nodded seriously. "I won't need weapons while you are beside me." And then he kissed her again. <-- this little sentence would make the super perfect ending imho.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to reading the last Sigma chapter (any news about a release date yet?) and I hope... no I'm sure... it's filled with lots of beautiful images.

When I tell my students I like FMP I get a lot of blank looks or "EEEEEEEH!?"s so I'm thinking not very. But things go in cycles here. A series that's popular now no one will watch in a couple of years time. So it might be popular if they released it again. If they could do it with Inuyasha they might do it with this too.

Awww... I dunno... YMMV, but Sousuke's always had a bitova rash side... Plus, the whole "opening up to his feeling" is one of the main themes. I mean,

Here's the scrapbook album @LJ 'cause I have a feeling photobucket would try to delete that one pic of Kaname...

I still have to do a lot of re-drawing on most of the pics, but as you can tell from the only one I bothered with, it's not exactly my forte. I'm more than willing to provide whatever is needed scan-wise to someone who can do the re-drawing... ^^;;
