In relevance to the ongoing feud between old and new, I'd just wanted to mention my major beef with the Rebuild Series.

Story/Characters aside (while I prefer the original, I can't really make a judgement until the series is over), I just have some beef over how the Rebuild has been executed so far. It seems to be missing some of that raw down and dirty feeling I got from the first Evangelion that made it stand out from other mecha shows.

Rather than explain, I'll just give some examples. In 2.0 when Unit 1 regrew her arm, I was expecting gruesome fleshiness. Instead we were treated to magical sparkles. Then there was that Dragonball Z-esque energy beam dual between Mari and that Angel. Where's the down and dirty that almost made me look away as a kid?

I also remember the same feeling from watching 1.0. Somehow the fight with the first Angel seemed much more raw and gruesome in the original series which really sunk into me. In Rebuild, even though the scene was pretty much identical, I think the pacing of it gave it less of an impact.

I guess what I'm saying is the atmosphere in the Rebuild series is a little off. It's the subtleties that really bring out the raw feeling which separated the original series as art from simply a cartoon (in my opinion). And it seems to be missing that this time around...

Not to mention the new plug suit and Mari's bouncing tits was a to me. Fanservice is fine by me but common, do it in an artistic way.

That said, I still enjoyed the series so far and am very interested in where Anno's gonna take it.

I fucking knew it. Lets keep Toiji and friends in the film why don't we!

Sigh.

Goddamnit.

It makes me sick looking at the possible changes they were thinking of putting in there. It almost looked like they were throwing darts at a wall with their feet and hoping some would strike

Wtf? The bed scene is supposed to replace the development for Asuka? The reason it makes no fucking sense is that there is no context for this scene in the first place.

At least they fucking admit it.

Anyhow I hope you enjoyed these scripts. I'll post more as translations come along. There's a lot of material.
I say if the end product is good, who cares about the process. Some of the greatest moments and pieces in cinematography were not set in stone. Many done on the fly or countlessly rewritten based on whatever felt right at the time.

Silly Reckoner, The new films are being adapted for this current age of anime. Character development and history was so 90s and is superfluous. Besides, shots of Mari's boobs were too important to cut out. IMO, we should praise them for sticking to what's relevant-- what people will watch.

It was moved to the scene in Rebuild in which the dummy-plugged EVA-01 devoured the corrupted EVA-03. You could even see innards this time, which is more than what you could see in the anime, if I recall correctly.

Thanks a shitton.

Where are these original scripts coming from? Who is translating them?

I love reading this.

Someone has been translating them in this evageeks thread...

http://forum.evageeks.org/viewtopic.php?p=399330#399330

There is still a lot of stuff, including stuff with Anno himself I believe. So they're slowly translating themselves.

For clarification, Enkoido is some outsider they brought into Rebuild for like 3 days or so who watched the film and decided a lot of the stuff he felt should be cut out or changed.... Apparently a lot of his recommendations made it through... I think he helped storyboard a little in the original NGE fyi.

If this Enkoido is Yōji Enokido, then I don't think he's merely some outsider.

Outsider meaning, he wasn't all that involved in the Rebuild process prior so he had a fresh perspective.

I'd seen the film already, but the opportunity to see an Eva film in an actual theatre was too good to pass up. So when 2.0 played Viz Cinema in SF, I had to go see it. Here's the blog post - way too long to post here. When I get going on Eva, I can't shut up...

Not sure where you are ("USA" is a pretty big target) but the movie is getting a few showtimes in several big cities. I do agree, though, that SF is the best place for a Japanophile to be if they can't be in Japan.

I'm an hour outside of NYC without traffic. Plus I highly dislike NYC, so yeah.

tbh, i like the original series better, esp. the EoE!! oh my, that movie itself was totally a mindfaq,it's really gruesome..and i like the ambiguity it has compared to rEBUILD. the latest movies are still awesome as hell albeit, i'm disliking the probability of a rei-shinji end. L0L.

ASUKA ALL THE WAY!! MWAHAHAHA! xD

Ah, I didn't catch hold of it. I probably wouldn't have wanted to see it again, but then again all those pretty visuals are best experienced on the big screen so having the opportunity to be able to see anime films nearby is always great.

The first Rebuild movie was good.

The second Rebuild movie's problem was the Vatican Treaty.

Spoiler:
But the movie certainly looks pretty.

I still like calling her a Mari Sue, though that's pretty good too .

http://wiki.evageeks.org/Asuka_Shikinami_Langley

Quote:
Staff interviews[6] state that Asuka being the pilot of Eva-03 was planned early on. There were various storyboards of her fate (such as Kaworu's voice speaking to Asuka as her face peels away inside the 9th Angel/Eva-03, as well as a scene of Shinji reacting to her removal from the entry plug) that were ultimately unused.

Another unused concept was Asuka sitting unconscious in the Eva-02 entry plug during the 10th Angel battle instead of Mari hijacking Eva-02.
Wait, really?
