But IF it's true, and since Kawamori was (as of this last weekend) still working on the second film, with the release date less than three weeks away, I think the second film may be having a similar limited release. Of course, DVD sales is where the real money is... |

According to a gaming related article, the Hybrid Pack (Blu Ray movie plus that "Trial Frontier" game) sold close to 153,000 copies in its first week. I'm not really familiar with the Japanese movie/game market, but that sounds like a pretty decent figure. |

People are more used to long-running episodes of anime than movies, the former being vastly more popular with the general audience, never mind that most movies are not original production, but recaps of their televised counterparts. - Tak

- Haruhi: 800 million yen - Gundam 00: 870 million yen - NGE 1.0: 2 billion yen - NGE 2.0: 4 billion yen - Karigurashi no Arrietty: 9.25 billion (!) yen The MF movies are being distributed by Clockworks, which is a smaller company and also distributed the Haruhi movie and Rebuild of Evangelion. The largest distributor/producing company in Japan is by far Toho (had a share of almost 2/3 of the overall cinema revenue in 2010).

Yeah, such is the price a writer pays for trolling his audience a few too many times... suddenly nobody trusts his words anymore, because him pulling a fast one on them has become the norm, not the event.
