I fully support this campaign by PETA. By calling fish sea kittens it will hopefully become more acceptable to eat actual kittens. Which are absolutely delicious.

In all seriousness though this seems like another ridiculous stunt to get media attention. It reminds me of when they wanted "fishkill" NY to change there name to something like "fishsave".

I think that it's already futile to argue with these PETA maniacs. They don't listen anyways.

Is this serious? 35k? It would like 1 message per min if sleep time is 6h per day. BTW, how much was the bill of that month?

But then seeing as you could easily send 3 texts within a minute, it's semi possible.
What's sad is that she's "shy", communicates to her BF via this (for most part) and doesn't like speaking to people.
I sense great social skills as an adult to come. Relationships should be amusing too.
(She'll prob be those teens who 'dump' via texts)

Mmmmmmmm, sea kitten crunchies!!! Nothing like lunacy to lower one's credibility even further....
I used to think PETA as perfectly reasonable people against animal abuse. They should just be jainists (search "food" to see their dietary stance).

But of all living things to care about, fish? I have a vegetarian friend who briefly considered eating fish on the basis that they're significantly dumber than land animals.

Pro-Life Group up in Arms over Krispy Kreme's Abortion Doughnuts

Read the rest of the article... I bet you'll facepalm enough times to skin the flesh off your skull...

Isn't America great where bloody idiots can organize, name themselves something grand, and make utter fools of themselves in the news media.

One of the comments to the article noted that the main competitor to Krispy Kreme was Dunkin Donuts, owned by the Carlyle Group (an admitted neocon investment group). So "follow the money"

Here's the horrible part... Krispy Kreme has now APOLOGIZED for offending them:
http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/ripti...res_victor.php
but wait.... they didn't ACTUALLY apologize - they just reworded their press release. No actual apology was issued (at least in public).
http://www.krispykreme.com/mediarelations.html

Now I'm annoyed at Krispy Kreme for kowtowing to these morons. Wrote to the listed contact expressing sadness that they caved in to such obvious lunacy.

All than just for the use of one word ''choice''.

What's next, banning this word from all media ?

Welcome to America, where everyone's given some right and some government support - including the ridiculously undeserved.

God must really give a crap about donut press releases.

Not to mention delightfully *non-apologetic*. It simply rewords the release in a very curt way.
(you can almost feel the typist thinking "idiots")

Good thing I'm not in charge of Krispy Kreme. Or the promotion would be "One free doughnut of choice per customer. Two if they're referred to as "Abortion Doughnuts".". Or maybe I'd start selling atheist sprinkles.

*high fives*
I can't send you yummy glazed doughnuts, but i can send you yummy sugar cookies
I just woke up and read that. First thought is 'mmmm my fav kind of kremes'
Secondly, I was looking for 'abortion' and didn't see it and didn't understand the article, cause I saw was how much the traffic police are gonna celebrate the free freaking giveaway!!!
(then i read someone's post here and realised cause they used the word 'choice')
And was like aaaah, yeah. America's freedoms are sooooo great, liberty and all that they're trapped in a cage of senstive BS and PC to cater to all 320 million of you.
(Can't sastify everyone but America does try to)

Ah well, now i have a craving for sugar but the Kreme shop here is 40mins away walk and I'm too lazy ;_;
(Checks local website to see if there's a free giveaway tho...)

Actually, because of this little snippet, I am now going to be getting one free [abortion] doughnut tomorrow, and of course a few extras for everyone. Truly, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I should send them pro-lifers a thank you note.

For all the pessimism and cynicism we Brits sometimes drown ourselves in, I know a lot are suffering back home, as am I with the pound devalued as much as it has and the mass closing down of businesses and stores and jobs.
We usually joke among ourselves calling January 'suicide month' because we rarely get blue skies in the country (one time i saw nothing but grey for 2 weeks, was ready to grab chair and rope)
but in this time when that joke is too close to be reality, it's nice to have natives tap into our sense of 'stiff upper lipness' and try to raise morale a little via comedy.
Quote:
As Britain grapples with widespread economic gloom, the Optimists Society sent cheer packages to famously downcast Britons, including finance minister Alistair Darling, deadpan comedian Jack Dee and BBC presenter Jeremy Paxman.

They also organised a free comedy show in central London to help cheer up the city's residents on "Blue Monday".

Though the country has been struggling economically, with tens of thousands of job losses in recent weeks, the Optimists Society believes now is the time for people's personal outlooks to brighten.

"As an optimist you get to bathe luxuriously in your own good-feeling, while also sparking some fun and laughter in others," James Battison, the society's founder, said.

"It's a win-win way to live. I highly recommend it!"

The group claims a mathematical formula - which factors in post-Christmas gloom, broken New Year's resolutions, job security and temperature - has determined that Blue Monday falls on January 19 this year.
Follows on BBC here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7838299.stm

It can qualify as a news post, but it has this silly/fun aspect to it too, so figured to leave it here.
Wonder if i can find a torrent for the comedy show >.>

edit:
Needed to add this, ironically the formula made me smile.
Quote:
Where T equals time since Christmas, D equals debt, W is weather, d is money due in January pay, Q time since failed quit attempt, M general motivational levels and NA is the need to take action, today, he calculates, we are in trouble.

Here is the formula: 1/8W+(D-d) 3/8xTQ MxNA.

Don't try and work it out, it's too depressing.

In short, it decrees the Monday morning of the last full week of January to be a deeper shade of blue than any other of the year.

But enough with the misery.

Here, on a day filled with more than enough gloom, are 5 reasons to be cheerful.

So smile!

Reasons to be cheerful

* 1) There are only 48 more Monday mornings until Christmas
* 2) Tomorrow's another day
* 3) Smiling is infectious – if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours
* 4) Today is the day to cover the country in storm clouds on your own weather map
* 5) Laughter is good for you
