Mahou Tsukai no Yome - The Ancient Magus Bride

The romance/ slice-of-life/mystery manga of the year (for me). Which has both lovable character, excellent plot and pacing, deep lore, with a touch sense of humor and adorable moment.

The actual description is:
Quote:
Hatori Chise is only 16, but she has lost far more than most. With neither family nor hope, it seems all doors are closed to her. But, a chance encounter began to turn the rusted wheels of fate. In her darkest hour, a mysterious magus appears before Chitose, offering a chance she couldn't turn down. This magus who seems closer to demon than human, will he bring her the light she desperately seeks, or drown her in ever deeper shadows?
So have a look at this, and throw your echi/smut manga that you are holding out of the window. As if this does not give you the fluffy heartwarming feelings to suppress your lust and desire. Then you are incurable!!

The feeling that I get from reading this manga is the same feeling I get when I read Natsume Yuujinchou.

I only watched season 1, but how so? Thought Natsume Yuujinchou was a bit mix of drama and slice of life?

Ah good - you made a thread for it. ^^

Ch 9 was just released a day or so ago, and it is more of the same - very interesting writing and compelling characters.

Must admit I also really like the art too!

A pretty interesting manga. The settings and characters are very nice and the couple even has some cute non creepy moments which might seem odd, but you really get it as you read further and see developments between them. The pairing is not sexualized at all and can be really sweet (that chapter alone with Titania & Oberon can make you go D'aaaww).

The world also makes you want to see more of it as well as the quirky side characters.

A begin of a new arc. But i'm glad that they skip all of the more boring magic training part and just get straight to the interesting one.

Was giggling at the note about the ring through "left one is too early"...
(not to mention the shivering mandrake when she picked up its petal....)

Yeah i mean even the side cast are very interesting characters as well. Titania & Oberon for example. Other manga would have portrayed those with high status by their power/ their ruling over others. But in this case, even without lifting a finger, just the way Titania treated Thorn, and then his reaction showed how much power, and more important, respect, Titania was commanding.

Or the King Cat and her human child as well

This manga slowly became my most favorite manga of all time.

With Chise becoming my favourite female character. She already rid of her damsel-in-distress status and showed to be very capable in protecting herself and others.

And i like how the author skip straight to the point, not wasting too much time to explain how can Yuris (the black dog) can turn to human, or the relationship between Yuris and Isabel. Or why he protected her and reacted like he did. With so few frames and words dedicating to them, but you can see how much Yuris loves her sister/master. And the sad tone behind his words.

This work already reached the threshold of mere manga, and slowly becoming a piece of art by itself.

Very much agreeing with this. Feels very much fairy tale-like reading this, but instead of say following some sort of escapist-type of plot, the whole story is soothing despite some of the pretty gritty themes. I am not good with words but it just is an enjoyable read.

My favorite is the dragon scene so far (kinda early on), but the rest is great too. The bonus short story with Volume 02 was cute as well. Too bad this is a monthly, I could use a biweekly dosage of leisure.

Somehow the story and art feel like it was a traditional fantasy story. Pretty rare considering the boom of battle manga with "nakama" could make you gary stuu nowadays... I agree that it could be called a piece of art. No wonder it was nominated for the eight manga taisho. It was number two in kono manga wa sugooi! as well.

This is so good. Last small story about the thunders was so fun to read. This manga manages some true atmospheric moments that makes you feel totally immersed in the story. I hope the author can keep it up.

It's surprisingly non-creepy and even touching, considering it's about a skeleton monster buying a child to be his bride.

The way you put that made me laugh.

It's a great manga, but it's also really straightforward. There's just not much to say, especially since there aren't many translated chapters. It reminds me a lot of the feelings I get when I watch Mushishi. More of a "classical" style of storytelling, as opposed to something that feels more like a comic book.

And the art is absolutely gorgeous, of course.

So I just found this in my local B&N. Refreshing after reading so many series revolving around fanservice and harems. A tale of a girl who knew only scorn and a monster that never knew affection and their baby steps to taming that mysterious fickle beast called love.

This is magnificent. The latest translated chapter focuses on the Silky, who I have adored since the beginning. Learning her backstory just makes me want to hug her even more,

Couldn't agree more! I thought the chapter focusing on Silky to be excellent in every way - art, storytelling and character development. It really is an excellently done series.

This manga is wonderfully refreshing and soothing. Delightful art, nostalgic yet somehow modern take on magic, interesting and unusual characters and relationships and nice focus on the main characters.

Silky focused chapter was nice...
