Hang on hang on! You won't get the Nagisa route just that quick on the 21st! You still have a long way to go before you can enter her route! And since this is just a visual novel, save frequently and do your own choices at your first try. If you insist, look at the walkthrough then.

I've been wondering this for sometime now, though does anyone know what city CLANNAD is supposed to be set, or based on?

I mean, i've come across real life settings for both AIR and Kanon in the past, and was wondering if it was the same for this time around.

I've also seen the real life setting for planetarian as well, but haven't come across the CLANNAD settings.

Does anyone know the Romanji name of threse script writer of CLANNAD? I only know Jun Maeda. (I've recently found an interview of him and want to translate)

I don't think it's public. I'm not sure it's even a real name. Even ja.wiki for CLANNAD list him as only 魁, next to Jun and Suzumoto.

I'm with Nightengale on this one. He's not the only one under VisualArt's that operates by a single name, either, so it's likely a pseudonym used to credit his work for companies that produce "adult content".

Here's the first part:

Thank you for the three script writers in participating in this special interview with VFB. We hope everyone will understand more about each character’s story. Also, the mysterious phantasm world is finally going to be unveiled here?
Introduction of the script writers:
Jun Maeda: Director of CLANNAD. In charge of Nagisa, Tomoyo, Fuko and various character’s script. (seems like the main story of Yukine’s script is done by him). Also he is involved with music composing. The lyrics of the ED of CLANNAD “a little hand” is written by him.
Kai： The script writer of the stories of the Fujibayashi twins and Kappei. All of the above mentioned scripts has undergone major changes, and Kai even had ideas of himself running off on a bike. Also in charge of part of Yukine’s script.
(Now we know why CLANNAD took 4 years to be completed. Maeda must have been chasing you on the bike and caught him in Hokkaido)
Suzumoto Yuichi： Joined KEY after being touched by KANON. Started working since AIR. In charge of the Kotomi route’s story and has won many praises with his precise calculations and fabulous performance. Also won many awards in the past as a novelist.


===========================Our objective is to make an interesting game==========================
--Let’s start with the production of CLANNAD, from the planning stage.
Maeda: After finishing AIR, I’ve finally felt I have done something I want. But because there is a focus on the story, it became harder to substitute myself in the story. That’s why I felt that I have to write a work that the majority can accept. To make it simply, a game just for fun. The concept of CLANNAD was born not long after finishing AIR. (Maeda’s conclusion on AIR seems to be quite precise. A different case for us, but in Japan, AIR wasn’t as popular as Kanon because of this. Of course the theme of CLANNAD is very good, as we can feel that CLANNAD was already accepted by the majority since the beginning. We can also have speculations that CLANNAD was already planned to be a happy ending, with the After Story included.

--The concept of “a tale of people and the town”, was it decided from the very beginning?
Maeda: Yes. From the beginning we have determined that instead of having a large world like AIR, we have decided to put the story in a small world such a small town to go write in depth about the people and the town, also the relationship between people.
(Actually, CLANNAD is much more complex in terms of time and human relation. The large cast is to emphasis on the love of the town, and were to avoid telling the tale of a few people.

--Was the core of ‘collection lights’ determined from the planning stages?
Maeda: Yes. But it was initially a more complex system, where the lights are in forms which the players can utilize at freely.
Kai: But this made the difficulty of the game much harder, and did hamper on the development of the story, and thus was modified into what we see now.
(This is an important message. We can at least deduce the following: 1. Long ago the concept of one light creating miracle wasn’t the original idea of the creators. I myself believe it was the wishes of townspeople. This we discuss later. 2. Why the original idea of made the difficulty of the game harder? Probably it is because of Fuko’s case. But this system shouldn’t be too useful if that’s the case, as there is only two places we can use the lights and there is no need to invent a system just for that. Afterall, AVG should be more focused on the story.

--How long was the script in the beginning?
Maeda: In the beginning we were already prepared for a long script because of the large cast, but we weren’t expecting such a huge script. How many times longer was the final draft compared with the original?
U1: I’m afraid twice.
Maeda: The Kotomi route and Fujibayashi twin’s route written by Kai and U1 was originally 250000 bytes, but it turned out to be 60000 bytes in the end. (smiles)
U1: Yeah, this forced the side routes to be shortened.
(These people have so much spirit! But a long script have its own pros and cons. The pros is it is easy to substitute into the story, but then it scares lazy people off and slows down the progress. I’m suspect poor Yukine became a side character because of this… Even though maeda did put her in Another sotry, but from the OP of KyoAni she’s just a passer by :cries: )
